Anyone using a La Spaziale Junior?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I am very keen to purchase a new La Spaziale Junior grinder. I know I can get one from a site sponsor but first would like to hear from any CSers using one. Can someone give me some feedback as all reviews I can get are on overseas sites but would like some opinions from our own CS members if any. I have just read a couple of threads from 2007 but would like to hear something more up to date.

    Any Pros? Any Cons?

Have you physically tried one out at a sponsors premises trumboli? Thats probably the best way to find out what you need to know, check the burrs out, kick the tyres and all that stuff ;),

The problem is, the one site sponsor is in Melbourne, I am in Sydney. I just want some independent feedback before making the plunge.

Ah ok..... Fair enough then. Have you thought about asking Di Bartoli if they could get one from Chris for you to try out? You never know whats possible until you ask......

I actually was waiting for a reply from Ofra at Di Bartolis today at Chriss suggestion but none came. Guess they couldnt get hold of one. Then if I get from Bartolis they will probably have to send the unit back to Chris at Talk Coffee for warranty or parts etc so maybe I might as well go with him. Chris says they have sold quite a few, hopefully to CSers. I guess it is early days since I posted this topic so I will give it a couple more days to hear from any happy LS Junior users.

Re: Anyone using a La Spaziale Junior?

I have sold perhaps 15-20 so far with no issues.

As mentioned early in the peace, grind consistency is good and the steps are small enough to be managable. The doser is adjustable unlike that of the Rocky doser. A minus is the plastic body *[smiley=thumbdown.gif]

There really is not much with a decent doser until you approach $600- so I still reckon its good pickings at that money..

What is frustrating for the supplier- i.e. yours truely, is that the packaging is not as good as it could be. LaSpaz. pack it in a small carton and then pack that carton in a larger one with polystyrene corner supports- which should be entirely satisfactory...

Thus far, my least favourite carriers in the world- TNT have broken 3 units but then if they are not the most incompetent carrier in the country....actually I had better *:-X. They must use them as footballs ::)

Anybody know a freight company which actually gives a damn?

I use Fastway but havent sent anything as delicate as a CM or grinder.
Ive mostly sent poker chip sets.
Heavy but fairly well packed and not much to break.
    No complaints though.

    Hi trumboli

I havent been on the site for a while so Ive just seen your post. I have a La Spaziale Junior and I love it. I had been using a Sunbeam EM0480. The La Spaziale is very solid and well made. It sweeps cleanly and is very consistent. I know Chris doesnt like the plastic but, for some reason, I really like the look of it. Its a great size - doesnt look overwhelming on the bench top. My only issue is that it is not stepless and although the steps appear small sometimes I find a big difference between them. I think thats just my lack of experience though. If you are happy with a stepped grinder I think youll really like it. I would give Chris a call - hes great and hell be happy to talk you through your options.

Its not your inexperience, the difference between steps on this grinder drove me crazy, I also recall its grind being particularly susceptible to the level of coffee beans in the hopper and it being relatively slow at grinding (sure slow grinding is good to reduce heat and the loss of oils etc., but this grinder is the slowest Ive ever used, except for maybe the Pavoni PGB). That said, it is a solid and quality grinder.. just dont expect it to be your final upgrade :P

Re: Anyone using a La Spaziale Junior?

Thanx all who contributed to this thread. Over the last couple of weeks I have researched specs and prices on so many machines that I am starting to think that I actually owned them at some stage. ::)
And now I have decided to go local with Di Bartolis and go with my first gut feeling, Rancilio Rocky. ;)
My son uses a Rocky with his Silvia, he has it set on 10 for his beans. Without any further adjustments I can grind on his Rocky for my Classic with almost equal results. Yes almost equal, I am working on my technique to make that 100%. I realise his machine may vary from mine but I trust not by much.
Yes, I know there are pros and cons with all grinders but for me, gut feeling, my budget and
some familiarity with Rocky, dictates that it is the best for me. If I go for another brand and have issues with it I will be kicking myself for ever.

    Thanx again guys.

    Hi Trumboli,
Sorry *to be so late, have just seen this thread. I took delivery of a LaSpazJnr from Chris in mid Feb. So far, looks good on the bench, grinds well, am learning to use the doser and Chris *warned that it would be a bit slower than than larger models, fair enough. Only 1 slight criticism so far, a lot of clumping in the exit, have had to buy a small brush to keep it clear. Summary, so far I like it

    Regards
