Re: Rocky Mod - Click Clack lid

Curious,.. could someone please measure the diameter of the rocky hopper. This click clack lid might be the solution to my problem with the lid on my GranMacinino. It rattles badly(loudly) and I need to hold the lid down just to stop the noise from the lid while Im grinding. I cannot continue a conversation at all while grinding and when I grind 3 times (and this grinder is slowwwwww),.stopping to press/tap grinds down in the basket between,.. it is annoying having to keep saying sorry and interrupting conversation and have to explain to visitors that I need to grind again etc. Its a fairly noisy grinder in anycase, but if I can at least stop some of the noise and have my hand back,..Id be happier.

Going out tomorrow and may get to Big W,.. I know I could measure my hopper and just measure to click clack tomorrow,.. but I just wanna know everything NOW,I had a laugh. ;D

    Hi all,
I am putting on my ignorant cap here - what is the benifit of the click clack lid? It it a noise reduction/vibration reduction thing, or something else?

Remy I would never have thought logically enough to take the hopper with me either :D Id have come home with one to find it missed by 2mm, then took it back and tried to find one that was close bought it home........ repeat, curse, repeat, curse and so on ;D

    Shannon,

The lid forces air through the grinder and dislodges some/most of the stray grinds in the chute.

It just happens that the lid fits the Rocky perfectly, so people say.

If you have one of those Vacuvin storage containers (the one with the little pump) check to see if that lid fits. Mine fits my Rocky hopper PERFECTLY and saved me having to buy a Click Clack one.

Dont fret,.. theres still hope,I had a laugh. The smallest one (4-7/8" diam) which I thought was too big for my hopper,.. looks as though it will actually fit because the inside diameter of my hopper measures 4.5" exactly and so does the outside diameter of the neck of the lid (the bit that actually sits inside the container). So, a containet that is almost .5" larger than your hopper, might still fit. This is the silver lid however,.. the white lids looked a little different and I never measured them cos I want a silver one. I didnt buy it though :( because it was the last one of that size and broken.. everytime I squeezed the button thingys,. the white underside of the lid popped right off,..none of the others did that,..just the one I wanted. ::puts hand to forehead to feel the bumps from smackin head on BigW shelving twelveteen times::

    Rocky and the click-clack lid

    Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anybody had experience with using a click-clack to reduce clumping while grinding as in this video http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=z21qba7nz98

I am currently using a pin and a yogurt container (WDT) with really good results. But it would be nice to speed up the process.

A search only reveals that there are a few people using them to clear old grinds. If anyone is using this method to grind with a doserless rocky I would be very interested to hear about the results. If anyone has info on what are the best lids to use and where they can be purchased that would also be great.

    More info here http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/grinders/357970

People do like modding their Slvias 8-), even Rocky has had the switch mod :). Looks like a good idea, worth a try I reckon.

    Thanks TG,

I will try and pick one up this weekend and give it a go. Would be nice if it is that easy to get it to come out all fluffed up and clump free.

I went out and bought this exact item and found out that its not a perfect fit for my Rocky Grinder. Its too loose. I ended up having to wrap 4 layers of tape around the click clack lid to get it to seal properly.

Erm...and smack me down with a feather...I forgot to take my hopper with me, bought the exact item mentioned above. Got home with it,..too small and would have to wrap tape around it 4,839 times before it would fit my GranMacinino hopper. *I have a nice marshmallow container now though ::).

Just an interesting note to share about these;...the first time I went to buy one,.. there was only one left on the shelf and the white part inside the lid which creates the suction,..was off, so I didnt buy it. Today, there were six on the shelf and four out of the six,.had the same thing where the white part was off,..replace these parts and they pop off again when squeezing the buttons. This seemed to be only happening with the small ones,.. like the mechanism under the white part is too large and pushes it right off.

Re: Rocky Mod - Click Clack lid

The one I have is 0.6l click clack container. It doesnt fit very tightly but I believe its not meant to fit too tight either. It does a decent enough job pushing out some loose grinds from the grinder but there is still alot of them inside. I do a grinder clean every few months which involves removing the hopper, the upper burrs and there is a lot grind in pretty much every crevice that exist inside. I usually use the vacuum to suck out all the loose grind I can see (and some I cant) and for those stuck on the burr carrier threads I use a toothbrush to brush it off. I reckon I would get enough loose grind in the grinder to fill at least a single basket. And that is after i use the click clack thing after every grind.

U4koffee - My rocky fit it perfectly with that item!

My Rocky is brand new, so maybe they have changed the sizes abit?

With the click-clack lids - the white bit in shops do fall off. The one I had was tightly on. I am not sure whether you can put back the white bit back onto the lid.

My experience with these in the store was;..I put the white bit back on several of them after trying just one at first and with this one..the white bit popped right back off everytime squeezed the buttons. So I then tried this with several others sitting there with white bits off and the same thing happened, no surprise there. Poor design I expect,..leaving most of them probably having to be returned to the manufacturer Id guess. The one I bought,..the white bit stayed on,.. but I bought it knowing it might just take a little while before it too suffers the same fate of its faulty counterparts left on the shelf. Mine doesnt fit my hopper (GranMacinino) as it is about 5mm too small in diameter as it turns out, so its sitting unused at the moment in anycase.

Re: Rocky Mod - Click Clack lid

Dont worry about whether or not the click-clack lids fit, just make your own. Very easy to do. All I did was cut out two disks from plywood which were about 5mm smaller than the Rocky hopper. Then a disk of approx. 1mm thick clear plastic sheeting about 2mm larger than Rocky hopper. Sandwich the plastic between the plywood and I used a long bolt to attach it all together. Perfect fit and works a treat. I even cut the bolt down, put a plastic knob on the end and when pushed all the way into the hopper, you can then put the Rockys native lid on. :)

    Kasa,

My Rocky is also brand new. I brought Master Rocky together with Miss Silvia only 2 months ago. I dont think its the Rocky lid, more likely the inconsistency lies with the Click Clack container lids. I had a look at this Coffeegeek thread http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/grinders/108241?LastView=1208388700&Page=7 and theyre also discussing the inconsistencies with the Click Clack Sizes. Some are saying to get the 0.6, others the 0.7, so who knows? Anyway I havent seen any 0.6 ones, only 0.7 ones, so I didnt have any choice.

I ended up getting some duct tape which matches the metallic silver colour of the click clack lid perfectly, so its not noticeable. With 2 layers of the tape its a snug fit, so much so that I can lift the Rocky grinder with just the Click Clack lid!

So the long and the short of it is, if it fits, great. If not, go get some duct tape and all will be well. :)

This seems to work :). Just made our evening coffee and the grind was fluffed up and clump free. I still ground into a container and then transferred into PF as I usually do. Pour was quicker so I will try a finer grind next time, the current bath of beans are getting on a bit, will try it with a fresh batch on the weekend.

To get mine clump free I simply give the pf a couple of hard taps *.... * works for me. * Saw that some dudes in the States use dental mixing vibrators.....wooohooo. * :D

    my 2 cents.

    b4b.

Oh yeah, for those going to purchase the ClickClack lid, its the lid that fits ClickClack part# 3015. (written under container base).

Tried the ziplock bag and it worked a treat!

Though went into BigW today and got a 0.7L ClickClack. Took in my Rocky lid to test fit. Got home and it seems to be a good fit, would of been a bit better being 1mm wider but it creates enough seal to push the stale beans out.
Moves up and down without having to push in the release.

Re: Rocky Mod - Click Clack lid

Thats interesting. I have the lid of a 0.7L ClickClack and without squeezing the release I could just about lift the whole grinder the lid it locks in so tight. I wonder if the difference is in the hopper or the lid?

I love the ClickClack mod, I disassembled the grinder and cleaned it a month or so ago and would not have got more than about 3 to 4 grams of beans and grinds out of the grinder (after 5 months of use). I sweep the chute and pump the lid while the grinder is still running.

Just tried the pumping whilst grinding, works a treat to get rid of clumping. I now however need to do the switch mod for the Rocky so I dont need 3 hands.
