Has anyone had experience with the Bezzera 004 grinder? I cant find much information on it.

I havent had any experience withit, but you could try giving Di Bartoli (theyre one of the sponsors on the left) a ring, as they sell that grinder at their shop in Sydney.

    Re: Bezzera Grinder

I had a day with this grinder on the Bezzera/Barazi stand @ AromaFest and as a weeks loan grinder from Di Bartoli while deciding which to purchase.

After a week of it in the office, I hated this grinder. The doser action felt cheap and it looked a bit dated, without as smooth a finish as the chromed, more expensive grinders Id had my eyes on.

After making a hundred or more coffees with it in one day, I came to appreciate its benefits. The grind quality is very, very good, especially at the price point. The doser swept very cleanly and the distribution into the basket seemed better than either the Macap M4 or Mazzer Minis that Ive tried (M4 @ home, MM @ a friends place).

There was only one major problem with this grinder in what amounted to pseudo-commercial use. It was slow. Horribly, horribly slow. With the volume of coffees often being requested, I was grinding coarse and pulling 10 second shots in order to actually talk to people as well as making coffee. If youre making one coffee, it wouldnt be a problem - if youre making 6, youll spend about double the time grinding. Im getting funny about grind speed though, and looking at upgrading my M4 or KS to get a cafe speed grinder when funds allow.

While Im glad its not the grinder I have at home, I came to appreciate it and respect it as a capable and really solidly built contender, and my previous annoyances (except speed) had all but gone (cheap welds) - if youre in Sydney then I know Di Bartoli have one in their store, as PhilMac said above. Its certainly a try before you buy grinder, at any price. If youre elsewhere, Talk Coffee in Melbourne might have one?

    welcome Cervelo!

Yeah I used the M4 at Aroma all day, and after using my SJ at home, that M4 was brutally slow (not much unlike the motorway during peak hr). Incidentally I busted out the Rocky the other day for a go and I felt I was standing there for ages waiting for it to grind. All relaltive i guess.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I cant make it to Sydney since Im in Canada but I did find a dealer locally and hes given me a good price on the grinder. It sounds, from the replies that it may work out for a home grinder since slow is not a problem for a few shots with friends. Also, thanks for the welcome.

Ive made it to Vancouver, beautiful city!

Id say that its not a beginners grinder either, its slow, ergonomics are poor and electronics are robust rather than well-finished. I suspect that youll be better off with one of the other suspects at that price point. The Macap M4 @ approx CA$699 or a Mazzer Super Jolly would be my immediate choices, but whats your budget and whatre your needs?

Theres a lot of Polar Bears coming down south and along with the ice cap, my igloo is melting as well. I dont know if youd enjoy a move here.
