    Finally got my Mazzer SJ!!!!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey,

A while back, I posted about buying a mazzer SJ from my local cafe as they were upgrading to a new one. Well I finally got it!....Its in perfect working order, Just needs some TLC. I want to take it apart and clean it all and possibly look at repsraying...

    Just a few questions tho,

I need to get a few parts for it....I need a new doser lid, and also need to come up with a small hopper more suitable for my small kitchen :P

Also, I think on the adjustment collar, there is supposed to be a small pin that sticks out to make for easy adjusting?

And.....When you adjust the grind size, should it go click click click? or is it just a smooth action with no clicking? mine has no clicking.

Very excited about this one.... Ive been putting up with my EM0480 paired with my Silvia for too long....

    Thanks :)

    Hi Ed,

    1. You can get parts from coffeeparts and genovese, though I never used the doser lid.

    2. Yes, there is supposed to be a small pin for adjustment. It is surprisingly expensive - maybe there is a bolt at your local hardware place that will fit. If the collar is stiff, sometimes its nice to have two pins.

    3. No, its not supposed to go click click click when adjusting grind size ... its a stepless grind adjustment system, remember? ;P

    4. I dont have a hopper for my Kony, so I am currently using a takeaway cup with the bottom punched out. Perhaps not a brilliant solution if you care about looks!

    Congratulations,

    Luca

haha its funny you say that...Ive only just used my grinder once and I used a take away cup...it actually works great!

Hmm yea I think i saw the pin on Coffee parts for $15? and the doser lid for $12....not too bad i guess....

So now I just have to find a tutorial or some sort about taking apart and cleaning cause i dont wanna wreck anything..!

Acutally, there is alot of coffee gunk all over the outside of the machine...doser ect....anything other than water and elbow grease you can use that removes it easily?

    Thanks
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
I have a PDF which shows an exploded diagram of the Mazzer if you want it.
PM me an email address and Ill send it on.

For a shorter hopper - I use a "version 1" Mini hopper bought as a spare part which is OK. You could also see if our other sponser Talk Coffee has any left of the extra-short USA version Mazzer Mini hoppers left.

When I cleaned mine it was just mildly soapy water for the outside.
The doser was pulled apart and the plastic windows etc soaked and cleaned - the mechanical bits of the doser were blown out with some compressed air and seem to work fine. Burrs were cleaned with an old toothbrush and some grinder cleaner was run through later. I will stump up for new burrs soon from coffeeparts.

Heres a photo of a stainless hopper I put on my Macap--fine if you grind small amounts at a time, and with a high bling factor.

Have fun with your rehab work.

Yup, a good grinder is one of the kindest things you can do to your coffee-making. Enjoy!
