    Uneven Sumatran/Corretto Question/HG update

First of all let me update you on my little OZITO heatgun. Ive been roasting by corretto for a year now and this is my first heatgun. Shes done 45-50 roasts and going strong.

My question is about the Sumatra Blue. I roasted 500g reaching FC in 1300 and RSC in 1900. Smells great btw. But its looking rather uneven... maybe CS8-10? Is this normal for the Sumatran?

Could it be due to the larger batch size. I usually roast 400g but upped-it to 500g (my brother in-law is now demanding regular supply). I would have thought the larger batch size would be more thermally stable and even. Ive also been using a partial cover (1x4 piece of wood...brushbox in fact) and thought this would also create better results as I dont need to have the heatgun as close as it had been previously.

    Thanks for your thoughts,

    sd

That seems typical for the Sumatran Blue--see my thread "Silent Sumatran" for some other roasters comments. Were you able to get/hear 1st and 2nd cracks?

    gday greg,

I remember reading your post (although Ive obviously forgotten the part about the uneven roast). I was prepared for no audible crack, but found both FC and SC to be very easy to pick. Nothing out of the ordinary really. FC didnt last very long, but it went for a minute or so and there were some loud bangs along the way.

Ill have a re-read of you post.

    cheers,

    sd
