    Question about Genecafe - Heat

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

I have roasted coffee on Genecafe 5 times already, and I am wondering whats actual temperture? is it the temperture in the "drum"? or the temperture from the heater? when I change the temperture, it increase/decrease so fast......

Re: Question about Genecafe - Heat

I believe there are 2 sensors, one before the drum and one after.

When I use a probe in the heatbox directly where the air goes into it, it reads some 20 degress cooler during heating and 10-20 degrees high when cooling down, which would indicate that the sensor being used is the one before the drum.

The actual heat of the beans will be somewhat lower - would love to figure out how to measure that ...

There are no sensors in the drum.

The best roasters have sensors in the beans, measuring bean temp not environmental temp, and that is what people with correttos are referring to. That will read much lower than the environment (and ramp up slower as well).

The Gene has the sensor at the source, so will show a higher temp on the way up, and maxing when the beans are still actually on their way up.

    You get used to it.
