Beans that go snap in the night

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi Snobs,

I have two bowls of beans that I roasted on the weekend just sitting in the kitchen waiting to be bagged and occasionally one will go snap. It is quite a loud snap too, bit like FC.

Is this just the beans degassing - and what is happening to cause the snap sound? I something cracking open or is gas escaping from a small hole ( ;) ;D).

    I had a laugh.... ;D

How about that? Ive never noticed my freshly roasted beans doing that. But then, I bag em, seal em and stow away while theyre still warm.

Could just be stresses relieving as the beans rest I suppose, take on moisture from the atmosphere, etc etc....

Ill have to pay closer attention to my next batch of freshly roasted.... :D

I have heard it befor then one day I actually saw it happen. :o

a small round piece blew out of the back side of the bean. Its a defect that apparently can only be seen in the green beans under ultra-violet I call them "blow outs" dont know if they have a real name?????
