I roasted some Mandheling today with the GMC gun that I bought last week to replace my expired XU1. I roasted somewhere between 200-250g.

It took forever to reach the first crack - around 25mins and I found I had to keep the gun only 1-2cm from the beans. To me this seems too long and too close - the beans show signs of localised burn spots. With the XU1 I found that I could reach first crack in less than 15 mins and held the gun 6-8cm from the beans which seems more reasonable.

Has anyone else had any experience with the GMC 1600 or have any comments re 25mins and the closeness of roasting?

Im thinking of using my 30 day money-back guarantee and getting another XU1!!
