Newbie- Loved Peru CDSE, should I try anything else?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi, long time lurker and complete Newbie. I have purchased the Target Popper and the sample pack.
    We have roasted:
    Colombian Volcan Galeras Supremo
    Brazil Pulped natural
    Peru Ceja de Selva Estate
    Ethiopian Gambella Sundried
We drink our coffee as Flat whites, no sugar.
Both Hubby and I loved the Peru CDSE.
Should we try any others or just stick to this as we both went WOW! thats coffee! :)
If you think we should try something else, based on the one we love, what would you recommend?
Out of the four the Colombian was probable our second favourite, but a long way behind the Peru. All where SO.
    Thank you

Well. I like to try a lot of different SOs. But I like to stock up on those that I really like. Buy 2.5kg or 5kg of peru. And chuck another bag in. I like the PNG Wahgi. Its my all time favourite. Also liking the Laos Dong Hua Sao, but its no longer available. Also look at either the Guatamela Huehuetenango (not my fav, but lots of people like it). And the Sulawesi Blue (Nice and spicy notes, I quite like it).

Also check out the KJM Blend - http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1287301980. You may like it as well. :)

    Mostly. Enjoy the journey!!!

Always worth trying something different, and yep I like the Wahgi too. With the beans youve got you could also try a roughly even mix of the first three (theres a fairly recent on this called something like south american a smooth blend). Youll never know unless you try.....

Ive got the exact same setup/beans as you meshe and just threw some 4 day old Colombian and the Peru together. Was interesting and quite a powerful flavour. Both at around a CS8. Start mixing those beans! Are you also finding that ~120gram roasts at a time are starting to be way below the amount youre drinking? :P Corretto time...

Another +1 for Wahgi - if you like the Peru I find it has some similar qualities.. maybe Im getting muddled up but no doubt it is a good one!

I love the Peru, but didnt like PNG Wahgi as much no idea why. But I have found my new favourite, the Ethiopian Harrar Longberry, absolutely love the fruity flavour going on in my mouth with every sip I take.

First i suppose - Hello All, long time lurker, and first post.

I also love the Peru and at first wasnt so keen on the Wahgi, but I found at about 6 days post roast it was as good if not better than the Peru, even my wife, (who sneaks coffees while Im at work), rang me to ask - "What is in the Grinder?, its Wonderfull!".

    Cheers

Wahgi haters unite!! ;D Definately I found the Wahgi has a lot more acidity than the Peru maybe thats what is not being liked?

Anyway each to their own, its more important that you enjoy the taste than anything else :-X

I havent tried roasting any PNG, but out of the rest in this thread my wife and I both love the Ethiopian Sundried Gambella best so far.

The way I roasted the Peru (far from perfect!) we both found it a bit too sweet and nutty, not complex/heavy enough.

+1 for the Ethiopian Sundried Gambella. I found it easy to roast with a popper and got good results as one of the first beans I roasted.

Im also enjoying the Peru CdS at the moment.

    Thanks everyone for your replys!

O.K at the moment with the 5x 100g roasting every 10 days or so.

Dont know if I am really total ignorant* (which I am) or just incredible flukey, but havent had a bad roast so far.

I worked out my own little formula that seems to be working with my popper. I time until rolling first crack (Normally 4-5 minutes depending on bean) then add this amount of time doubled (so another 8-10 minutes). I am often getting second crack starting at this time anyway.
Ordered 5kg of the CDSE and 2.5 of the wahgi plus you made me feel really adventures and thew in some Elephant Hills. I guess if I dont really love one of them I can play with some blends.

I will post back (about 2 weeks I guess) when I try the wahgi.

    New beans arrived today.
Roasted 3x 80 gram (240 gram) of each.
Roasted Wahgi first, with rolling first crack at 5 minutes, all other batches rolling first crack at 4 minutes. Left for double this time for each batch (so first was total of 15 minutes all others 12 minutes.) No audible second crack with any of the batches (next time I will try 100 gram batches) Very cold in Melbourne as well.
    Photos in order:
    Wahgi
    Elephant
    Peru

    Behmor Coffee Roaster
They look good. I certainly prefer the Wahgi not too dark (ie just before it hits 2nd crack), so should work out well. Just trying my Braz/Colomb/Peru/Wahgi blend and its pretty good. Could have upped the wahgi content though. As an experiment I threw some leftover Elephant Hills (25%) that was about 3 days older than the other beans. Also quite interesting with more crema, but 5 beans is probably overkill.
