    Beans have blown out holes

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey guys,

I have just started roasting with a popcorn machine.
My end product has a lot of beans that have black holes in them where the beans have kinda exploded i guess.
Is this OK? or is this a sign that I have roasted too far? the beans don't look overly dark and they smell good!
I roasted half a cup in the popcorn machine and it took about 15 minutes.
    Thanks

    Adam

    Hi

They are called divots and it results when your roasting too fast and too hot, especially at the start of the roast. Slow down the heat input at the start and take things a bit slower. Search on Google for "divots coffee roasting" or search Coffee Snobs for divots.

you might have missed 2nd crack? 15 minutes is a long time in a popper.
