    Corretto Sample Roaster

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all
With a bit of prompting from Sando, I had another lash at my "corretto sample roaster concept' last night with good success in the cup this morning.

Basically, I wanted to use the great adjustability from the Bosch HG to allow for small roasting batches for sampling, as the minimum in the corretto proper is about 300g. Made from tin cans, aluminium perf, tube from an old heated towel rail, and some camping toaster mesh from BCF. Unfortunately, the airflow isn't high enough for self mixing - so had to stir.

So, yesterdays roast was 25g (enough for a double shot) of Indian Elephant Hills. Total roast time about 20mins (similar to the corretto), nice even roast. Ramped from 200 - 250 - 280 on the gun to first crack about 15mins, then back to 250 till just on second crack. Great in the cup this morning - very similar to small popper roasts i've done on cold days, when stretched to 15 mins or so.

So - proof of concept - tick - but virtually useless for anything in the real world! Who wants to spend 20mins stirring beans for a double shot worth of cupping! Anyway - had some fun in the shed I had a laugh!

    Here's some pics…

Regardless of the small amount you can roast its still a neat looking little contraption and good for sampling small amounts.

All 'good things' come in small packages!!
That's just clean simple design. Brilliant.
    Happy roasting.

Ive been thinking of a similar setup, only using a conical roast chamber for a spouted bed.

You could try putting the roast chamber from a popper in it. Might improve the mixing?

    Hi MrJack.
I've thought about trying that. I'm just not sure that the airflow in the HG is high enough? Those popper fans seem by the feel of what is coming out, maybe twice that coming out of the HG? Be interesting to measure somehow.
The other thing I've thought of is a small rotating mesh insert - kinda like a tiny Behmor! Maybe a leaf tea holder? Or one of those pen holders in inserted in a can? It could then be powered somehow, and heated with the gun…
    Just random ideas!
