I have noticed a strange thing happening when I roast my costa Rican Tarrazu from the last poll. When the 2nd crack is rolling, I notice that little round nobs or ends of the beans are popping off the beans. Its almost like a gas cooker poping a valve to say its finished or something. I end up with little round holes just the thickness of the outer shell of the bean, in the bean its self. I have not noticed this with the Kenyan or the Tamborine coffee Ive got. I am using a popper so I dont know if this has anything to do with it. I was using the stove not long ago but I dont recall seeing this happening then. Not all the beans have this happen to them but strange none the less
Has anyone else seen this?
Yes, I see it often, both on the popper and the billy can Im using. Alt.coffee refer to them as divots so you might want to do a google group search to see if there is any information on why it occurs. From memory, I dont think it is a particularly bad thing though....
