30 minutes in a Crazy Popper

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I guess this must be a record.

Nicaraguan High Grown Bold - I have tried two batches previously and never got them as dark as the brown beans I have been buying from shops, so I thought Id be brave and let it go. I had a few snaps and crackles after 8 minutes, and those cracks seemed to just go on forever. After a while I noticed little black discs coming out of the top, but some beans were still quite light so I let it go.

Eventually I gave up and tipped the beans out, then looked at my stopwatch. 30 minutes and 20 seconds.

Attached is a picture - they look not too bad. I also found the second largest coffee bean I have ever seen. Quite a variation in this batch.

    The picture didnt attach.

The little black bits coming out would be happening arouns second crack so if some beans were still light in colour the popper is not roasting evenly.

How many grams were you roasting?

Most Crazy Poppers only take 5 minutes unmodified.

Yes..cant figure out what is wrong, but cant attach the pics.

I had 130 grams this time. Most other batches I have done were fairly consistent colour-wise.

    Gday kevviek...... :)

Just resized your image slightly mate. If you could keep image size to a maximum of 640x480 pixels (W x H), they will be much easier to view in most browsers and older monitors..... :(

If you are unsure about how to easily resize your images,
this link will hopefully assist :).

    Thanks,
    Mal.

Re: 30 minutes in a Crazy Popper

I tried a 140g batch once but went back to a maximum 100g in my Crazy Popper.
    That was with a chimney.

130g may be too much for your popper to try and heat and the extra beans would restrict the airflow which could also be causing your uneven roast.

    You said "130grams this time".
How much do you usually roast?

    Behmor Coffee Roaster
I started at 100 grams and have been working my way up as my popper seems to be very slow. I was hoping to speed things up, but Ill try slightly less next time. Ill also try a different bean as the last batch of NHGB was also uneven.

** thanks for the tip re photo sizes**
