    My coffee smells like promite!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
My most hated of childhood smells.

Rwandan - 10 days PR, sealed in a 250g black one-way valved bag.
El Salvadorian - 7 days PR, not sealed, 500g black/clear one-way valved bag.

Cracked both open yesterday to an overpowering smell of promite. Can anyone suggest why? I opened the Rwandan first and thought I mightve just severely stuffed the roast, but for the El Salvie to smell the same?

I checked my cupboard and it doesnt smell, as my first thought was that they might have absorbed the smell from somewhere.

Either that, or someone please tell me pseudoephedrine makes everything smell like a malty, yeasty, salty spread?

The one shot I pulled of the Rwandan was all promite - couldnt get the taste out of my mouth no matter what I did. Although Ive also had an awful metallic taste in my mouth since this flu started, so that probably wont help anyway.

    Help?

    Oh dear!

Its probably just the mineral salts in the pseudoephedrine Michelle. Pseudoephedrine can also cause hallucinations, but only if youre lucky.

I guess it makes your cupping notes easy...

"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"
"smells like promite, tastes like promite"

Pretend your a bloodhound and start sniffing the trail...

Have a sniff around your roaster and cooler to see if you have introduced the smell there. Might be something burning in the roaster?

The other thought is the bags... recycled? Are they really clean or could some oils have left the odour? I could see rancid coffee oils smelling like promite.

Nah, theyre new bags. I cant smell anything around my roaster/cooler. The Malawi beans Im doing today dont really smell at all.

I think its me, cuz some beans I was given on Saturday roasted by a pro about 100 km away from where I roast also smell like freakin promite!

This weird smell illness better not last!

... but seemingly distorts vision. My wife drove up the back of a truck when she learned she was carrying twin boys :( Them hormone changes sure change the moods & synaptic functions.

Its either that congratulations are in order
    or
Or her sense of smell has failed
Did I put my foot in it ? not using a politically correct comment

Hmm, I knew I was pregnant with my younger one when I woke up one morning and though "I hate the smell of coffee". This isnt increased perception, its some weird distortion of smell.

However, no, I dont believe #3 will be joining us just yet. Goodness, what a public place to have such a discussion :-[

Dont worry we can keep a secret ;)

My wife also went off coffee when she was pregnant that is how we knew for the second child.

I had the coffee all to myself for 9 months [smiley=evil.gif]

Um -- sortof puzzled here -- if youve got the flu + a horrible metallic taste, surely everything is going to taste (and possibly smell) like crap?

I cant touch coffee when Ive got the flu -- it just tastes horrible. I know Im getting better when it makes it onto the "things I could possibly contemplate" list!

I dont know about whether pseudoephedrine causes promite smells, but whatever youre taking it for certainly could.
Blame it all on Descartes--he said we were a separate mind and body, and he got it wrong! We are a single organism and whatever affects us, affects us.

No, only coffee smelt weird. Still does a bit, but at least it kinda tastes normal again.

Dan, yeah, I think you said marmite actually, but on the same day you also tasted coffee that you said was like licking a pencil, and another one that smelt like lipsmackers! ;)
