    Roasting suggestions?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
OK folks, have friends coming over on the weekend and want to dazzle them with my new found coffee hobby. Any suggestions on a good coffee or blend out of the Kenya AA, Monsooned Malabar, Yirg, Nuggets, Harrar we last ordered that would make a good milk based drink? Was thinking the Harrar as a start, the "earthy tones" sounded intriguing.

Also looking for some roasting tips for each, from those who have roasted them already/before..... are there any that are better roasted lighter or darker as a first attempt - I intend to practice practice practice, just want to short-cut that a little for the weekend :-)

    TIA
    Brett

R&R Sugested to me a while back Harrar and Nuggets 1:1....very nice blend and wont blow the sleepy dust out of your head. (Depends on how strong you make it though) - We roasted ours to a full roast (Just as the second crack startes to roll)

Since you did mention you were going to use them in milk based drinks, I would say dont worry too much about acidity. Stop your roast just when first signs of second crack emerge.
This way, you dont kill off the unique taste of each variety.
Read the post in the Cupping room on the Yirg, this is one coffee with very nice floral, fruity taste, however, over-roasted, you will just get the taste of the roast and not the bean.
Beans like the Malabar are naturally low in acid and do well with a light roast.
I believe that roasting into a rolling second crack is a means to lower the acidity, and if stopped just right will yield good results. However, its too easy to get past this point, and ruin the taste of the beans.
