India Tiger Mountain "Plantation A" is a new coffee to CoffeeSnobs. Although we have had recent experience with Monsooned Malabar and Mysore Nuggets, the Tiger Mountain was a completely different dimension. In a recent lineup that included coffees from PNG (2), Columbia, Uganda and India (2), the Tiger Mountain stood out as being different and very distinctive. It is a coffee with real impact, has good acidity, rich body and a strong chocolate finish. In tasting the Tiger Mountain over a period of an hour its flavours changed markedly with temperature. It was at its best when it was hot but near the end of the tasting when it had cooled, the intensity of the flavour was by far the strongest of all the coffees on the table. It is an easy coffee to roast and at 30 seconds into second crack the beans had remarkably uniform colour. I intend to experiment with the Tiger Mountain and try it at different roast levels. Early experience suggests it will work very well as a blend component where the strong chocolate flavours can work their magic in my lattes.
