Looking good Andy! From the layout it looks like were buying from stock you already have rather than waiting until theres enough orders for you to buy a sack. Is this the case?

Hope it save you a serious amount of time!

It will be a mixture of both in stock and to be ordered.
This month there a quite a few "stocktake" items which are beans from "my own stash" that were requested.

Yes, it will save time for everyone. Faster invoicing, better communication, all good!

The web site is taking a bit of a hammering at the moment, it should settle down shortly.

    Hey Andy,

Just ordered my first batch of CS coffee. Im excited ;D

A little quirk on my checkout form is that this text:

If paying by bank deposit, please use invoice number ***** in the payment
description field of your transfer so we can tell who the payment came
from. Prompt payment ensures that everyone gets their delivery faster.

...shows a different invoice number when compared with the number underneath the line on the same page. My confirmation email has the same number that appears below the line, so I will use that one. Just thought you would like to know.

    Nice Andy, really nice.

I got the same little gliche as Nigel with the invoice number, obviously just some kind of link not configured correctly.

Looks like the new system will deliver everything necessary for CSers at the front end, lets just hope it saves you some trouble at the back end.

    Regards,

    Jeff.

    Hello All,

Im a newbie so cant comment on how things operated before, but I must say, the new BeanBay is superb. Easy to use, I added and substracted, cancelled and started again and all worked flawlessly. A great effort guys, and much appreciated.

    Really really good :)

By now you probably know about the invoice number discrepancy but I also think that there is a total lack of useful links. Like:
    • A link back to "Coffee Snobs Home" or maybe "Market Square"
the link to BeanBay from CS home page or Market Square.
    *
This could be all solved by having BeanBay within the same frame that the old polls where in.

Also it would be great to have the $price right beside or near the items picture or Name like the old Poll system used to have

    Great system. Looks good.

I appear to have gotten the CORRECT invoice number flow thru from the ordering screen, to the confirmation email I just received.

A big THANKS from me for still offering a Melb Metro $10 delivery.
Id much rather give more of my money to CS, than Aust Post.
    Meaning, at $10 delivery, I have "budget approval" ;) to order 4 x 2.5kg.
Otherwise I would be limited to 3 x 2.5kg per poll.

Andy, do you have a preference for payment via PayPal or Direct Deposit ?
Which is less work for you ?
Im happy to pay the couple extra dollars and use PayPal if it means less work for you reconcilling payments.

Thanks to all involved for the many many hours of hard work that must have gone into getting this all up and running :)

I guess the invoice bug has stopped things for the moment (about 14:50), I cant see anything except the "polls are up" and this "feedback" post,
but then I have been known to be slightly computer illiterate at times...

Edited at 15:30 Never mind me I found it and it is good, thanks Andy.

    Thanks for the heads-up CSrs.

Glad the first impressions are good. We are really excited about the look and feel and hope that this first poll runss fairly smooth.

The invoice "whoops" has been fixed (Thanks Matt) so it should have only been the first of you that copped that. Your emailed invoice should have the right number on the TOP RIGHT (it was only the bottom of the invoice text that had the error).

    Links and navigation ?

I agree, we will be changing that soon. For the moment you can click the CoffeeSnobs logo to return to the forum home.

The new BeanBay is great Andy. Worked flawlessly for me and I got the correct invoice number.
Previous suggestions regarding adding the links back to other areas of the site and adding the cost of beans to the bean name (under the pictures) are great ideas.

    Well done!

All looks excellent :-) Works very nicely. Well done Andy (and Co) !

Just one thing, when editing personal details all fields come up yellow and are unreadable. You can see the details when you highlight the line, but after that it turns yellow again. Dont know if its just my browser settings ....

    Hi Belinda,

Do you have the Google Toolbar installed? Theres an option in there called "Auto-Fill" or something similar that changes the colour of quite a few text boxes. I had the same troubles on other sites until I went in and disabled that feature.

Which is less work? Not sure yet ;-)

    Direct deposit:
Pros... you dont get extra fees.
Cons... it takes 24 hours or so to clear.

    PayPal:
    Pros... Its instant
    Pros... can use credit cards
Cons... you cop the 0.30c + 2.4% fees
Cons... I still have to get the money out of PP to pay for the beans.

I would suggest you save yourself the $ and use direct deposit but they really are 50/50.

    :-)

    Well spotted!

They are actual photos this month because we had early access to the beans but normally we wont get a photo until after the polls :o

I expect we will use a few "generic library pictures" in future to show washed, natural, peaberry, robusta etc

Its great Andy! I am no longer salivating and now am counting the small amount of cash left.
Tell me- will these polls be updated whenever you get beans or on a more regular basis? Monthly, weekly, fortnightly????
Im thinking of making it my homepage :)
ALL went real smooth- no invoiving probs at all- bank deposit went through without a hitch...

    Very Nice People!

While the pickies are handy maybe little origin flags would be cool... just an idea?
Ofcourse, now Matt is free (ha ha), maybe he can stay up late and program digital cupped aroma-vision... now that would be cool!!!

    Andy and Matt,

Thanks for a fantastic job. Really slick and a pleasure to use.

I had to amend my User address details because Address 1 was in the Address 2 field, if you are importing to a separate database might need to check the import.

    Thanks again.

By the way the site works fine in safari on macosx if you are interested in browser compatibility.

Boy I should not have gone to work today. Would have loved some Harrar but have setteled for some Mandelang. Its tough but I will survive. The order was very easy after I figured out that my shipping address was on the wrong line. Needs to validate that the first line has something in I guess.

    BeanBay beats ebay!
An excellent ecommerce experience, as I was only looking ...then bought some of the Peru beans.
I did have an anomaly with the background colour having the same colour as the text in the fields used for the member/ delivery details. This wasnt a problem for me, as I reviewed the typed text by highlighting the row.

    Very, very good.

Makes buying easier. Is a real pleasure to use.

As a couple of people have noted, the only problem is that the beans just walk out the door. But even that has a good side - more home roasters seem to be about these days.

    Thanks for the feedback CS’rs.

Its great to see that most of you had little or no trouble adapting to the new system and that the “flow” was intuitive and easy.

There were a few mentions of the decaf, we will poll another “unleaded coffee” (decaf) in early September along with some other interesting beans we have in the pipeline.

The good thing about selling lots of beans quickly is that opens the door for more choice and larger volumes next month and with this fantastic BeanBay we can schedule the release of beans for a specific date/time so everyone can have a fairer crack at them knowing exactly when they will go up (well a few days notice anyway).

I’m really looking forward to the rest of the process so we can see just how smooth this can run, so far so [s]good[/s] GREAT! 8-)

    Nice work Andy and crew.

Can you see a time when there will be semi-permanent beans that will always be available, kind of staples?
Or would carrying the required quantity of beans be prohibited by cost? Im not sure how many thousands of dollars you would be willing to have tied up in bean stocks... :-?

Good one Andy - this is an ace system you have developed. Im with Framey on the supply front, having been away for 2 days, ive missed the polls *:(, so it would be great to have rolling access to green beans. Maybe CSers can have some kind of futures investment to enable greater stocks on hand - or even pre order to make it easier for you to stock up for poll time? Thanks for the obvious work and thought you have put into this :) Polly

    Hi Andy and Matt,

I like the clean interface, the ordering process is smooth and intuitive, works well in Firefox. Good job.

The only problem I can see now is getting my hand on the beans, cos they will be gone a lot quicker.

Now that Matt is free, maybe he can develop something like a sniper that can monitor when the polls come online and get the order in in the first few seconds :)

    BeanSnipe... thats funny Slowpod. :)

I expect that next month the polls will be scheduled to date/time and have enough volume of stock to cover more CSrs wish lists. Maybe less origins and more of each would help. We will find the right mix in time.

Can you see a time when there will be semi-permanent beans that will always be available, kind of staples?
Never say never they say. ;)

CoffeeSnobs works because of scale. Lots of orders in a short amount of time mean that all the invoicing, bank reconciliation , ordering, receiving, packing and distribution is done in bulk.

If someone bought 1Kg of beans in a 24/7 web shop then the process would be something like:

    The order comes in.
    Payment is confirmed.
    Beans get weighed and bagged
    Package gets packed and addressed
Drive to the postoffice and send it.

Sounds pretty straight forward but the end to end process would take at least an hour (if not 2) and cost a couple of dollars in fuel.... for a single kilo of beans. That is why other online sellers charge double CS price and even at double price they would still want multiple orders to make it cover actual cost.

Currently CS is shipping 750kg of beans with around 100 hours of total labour time which makes it about 8 minutes per Kg as opposed to 2 hours per Kg. The CS model is obviously far more sustainable than the 1Kg “buy it now” model.

Having said that though, a future option might be to have a “non-poll shipping day”, something like “Everything that is ordered and paid for will ship on Wednesdays”. That could work with the only risk being that someone who ordered late Tuesday might miss that shipping cycle and have to wait a full week to till the following Wednesday.

One of the great features of CS is that we are small enough to be dynamic and we can try new ideas fairly easily and this might be one of those ideas in the near future.

Just one thing, when editing personal details all fields come up yellow and are unreadable. You can see the details when you highlight the line, but after that it turns yellow again. Dont know if its just my browser settings ....

Works no probs on an apple running firefox, but the best bit is that I dont even need to add the totals up myself!! I like the touch of having the subtotal for 2.5 kgs alonside the price per kg.

Geez, you gotta be quick though, only the Sumatran and PNG were left when I logged on, so I exercised restraint and tempered my order to share the lovin
