    September Polls

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Our first coffee poll using the all new BeanBay worked a treat. *A big thanks goes out to all the CS members who used it and quoted their invoice numbers on the bank transfers, it really helped make last month the smoothest running poll ever.

We will be having two pickup days, one in Melbourne and for the first time, one in Sydney.

    The Melbourne cafe day:

    Veneziano Caffe
    22 Bond St,
    Abbotsford, VIC, 3067 *
    10:00-12:00 Saturday 9th September
You can pickup your beans there freight-free (because its only an hours drive to Veneziano for me)

    The Sydney cafe day:

    Di Bartoli Coffee Centre
    558 Oxford St.
    Bondi Junction, NSW 2022
    13:00-15:00 Saturday 9th September
We can bulk-ship beans to Di Bartoli for just $1 per kilo, please add the $1 per/kg to your invoice total when you transfer payment. (next month we will change the software to do it for you)

On offer for September we have plenty of choice:
3 single origin coffees, 1 commercial pre-blend, 1 decaf and a specialty tea:

    Gunpowder Green Tea
    Bali Gunung Batur
    Indian Tiger Mountain
    Ugandan Mt Elgon AA
    Mountain Mist Blend *
Decaf - Colombia El Tolima (Swiss Water - RFA)

The September Coffee Polls will go live at 1pm today (Tuesday 29th August)

    http://coffeesnobs.com.au/BeanBay

    Enjoy!

    *Andy.

    Please note.... Late Edit....
The time for the Sydney pick-up neded to be changed to 1pm on that Saturday because of a clash with a training event.

Im going to have a cramp in my left mouse button finger just from hovering over the Bean Bay link.

Only trouble is that having done a little research on each of the single origin coffees I want all of them.

Yeah... wanting all of them is a trap we all know about!

Your best bet is to find a local CSr with the same problem and each buy different origins and split them between yourselves.

Thanks Andy et. al., I got in this time with plenty of time to spare thanks to the warning email - only 40kg of the Indian Tiger Mountain left though!

Bought 2.5 of that and 2.5 of the Ugandan (a modest amount, I know - and in the interests of fairness to others of course)..

Will pay when I get home from work, cheers!

And the first 3 places according to the database were....

    1. Doppler
    2. FatBoy
    3. Rowdee

All posted into the DB at 1:02 in that order.

    :-)

PS: the time on the web server is VERY accurate (less than 0.0001 second out) so I agree with FatBoy, you might want to check your watch Doppler ;)

    :)
Not me being punctual, its the marvels of computers.

I entered all the poll information at 3am this morning with a Poll start time of 1pm and the computer with atomic time sync makes a pretty good $3000 watch.
    ;)

We have been made aware of one gotcha this month (that we thought was fixed last month). It appears that the rounding down bug has hit again and is taking a dollar or two off most of the invoice totals.
    $7.50 x 2.5kg = $18
    $7.50 x 5 = $36

Hmmm... but dont worry about diddling CS this month, the sponsors contributions should make-up the slack and next month we WILL fix it!

What did I say about the marvels of computers?
    ;)

This is probably the only time that a consumer cant feel good about diddling someone! Damn my $2 guilt *[smiley=beer.gif]

As a first time BeanBayer [month long anticipator] transaction was sooooo smooth, thanks Andy - and the technology that keeps you running at 3am *[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Just wondering if Andy (and later on, others) could post roasting profiles for these September beans here. I just want to know how darkly I should cook them (I know its subjective to some extent)...

P.S. I agree it was sooo easy to use, and I have transferred the money now, thanks a lot!!

    Andy,

Having been too late to experience last months poll, let me now congratulate you on such a damn fine polling process - kudos! Next time though, could you give us all a touch more notice? The indian was all spoken for when i logged in this evening!

Secondly, thanks for giving that tea another chance - as you know Ive been needling for months now, so you can probably appreciate how happy I am now faced with the opportunity to finally get my grubby hands on it!

Finally, I must apologise - I didnt incorporate the invoice number into the bank deposit description, but rather my username (or part of it). Hope I dont screw things up too royally.

Once again, congrats on a fab new system.

The Decaf is organic (and certified so) the Ugandan is insecticide free by process but not certified. The rest are unknown.

Next time though, could you give us all a touch more notice?
In an ideal world I would have enough time to give a few days notice, leave the polls up for a week and then have a couple of weeks to receive payment, order, bag and distribue the beans.

Sadly, it doesnt work like that.. and if it did we would not be able to poll every month as they would overlap.

I had initialy earmarked the poll for the end of August (woo hoo we are on-time) and due to one of the suppliers being lax with pricing and availability I only gave 11 hours notice. *The beans were all available at 6pm tonight (5 hours after polls opened) but had obviously gone when you got here. *

We have all sorts of variables that stop us polling on a fixed date, most of them are supplier reasons but there are others like delivery dates and Fathers day that we have to work around and sometimes it just doesnt happen when we want it to.

I promise I will always give as much notice as I can, I try and email everyone with some notice and will alway post to the poll area of the forum the details.

We will also keep track of some of the very popular beans so that they can make a reappearance the next time they are on offer.

    Enjoy!

To be honest, I quite like the frenetic immediacy of the monthly poll. Its a bit like the lucky dip I enjoyed as a kid. OK, sometimes, I might be disappointed, but to discover something new, at such extraordinary prices, and such quality - I cant help but be excited.

    Best wishes, Russell.

Ive been at TAFE classes then work all day and only just home, so I managed to grab the last of the decaf, and some of the Ugandan. Missed out on the Tiger Mountain, but maybe thats just as well - Im going to run out of bean storage space soon.

I guess I was lucky, a friend rang at lunch to tell the poll was coming :P

So 12.5kg and four lovely new beans to play with the only dampener was the roasting from the wife over my stealing her pantry :-?

So I guess next poll I had better hold back... slightly :)

The linen cupboard is where its at :) Get rid of all those useless towels and sheets and what-not, and load up the shelves with beans, beans and more beans... Works a treat.

Well done to Andy and the CS team for another smooth and excellent bean-poll under the BeanBay system.

    andrew,

I ordered mine at 13:02 - paid via DD same day. As I am not with the same bank as Andy (St. George), it takes time to go through. Usually 1 day, but can be more depending on your bank and the wonderful world of electronic transfers.

I just checked my status and it says payment received.

Not sure, but I would guess that there is a manual element still required from Andy to update some things.

Im sure Andy will do his best to ship quickly, but I think it would be fair to allow a few more days.

Andrew- you may have forgotten to factor in the man hours required to process and reconcile all orders and then divide, bag, label and freight the best part of a tonne of beans :-?. Andy achieves the incredible all the time....he takes a tad longer to achieve the impossible! *;) ;D

    Hi Andrew,

Ditto Fatboy, my order is showing today as payment received, the transfer between the banks is the problem, or at least the delay, they debit your account straight away but dont credit Andys for at least a day or two.

Two chances of getting them tomorrow!

We also need to make the distinction between a full time e-commerce business that trades 24/7 and ships product daily, versus the new CS BeanBay that uses an e-commerce model to facilitate the once-a-month trading of green coffee beans.

We shouldnt expect to pay today, ship tommorow. Its never bean that way. There is a huge amount of manual processing that goes into shipping every months batch of orders beyond the placing of the order and collecting the money.
The fact that the excellent BeanBay automates a portion of that process doesnt mean that CS operates as buy today, ship tommorow business.

    Just my $0.02

    Re: September Polls

1am... only early Andrew, see plenty of 3am+ during poll weeks.

Thanks all for the replies CSrs.

Yes, WAY too early to hope to get beans tomorrow. The process is poll, pay, poll-close, reconcile, then the beans get ordered, delivered, bagged and then freighted.

Sometimes (this time included) the process is poll, the beans get ordered, pay, poll-close, reconcile, delivered, bagged and freighted.

Subtle difference being that for a few days I was many thousands of dollars out of pocket to try and lessen the wait for the suppliers to deliver the beans (which can add a week to the process).

We used to have a rule of thumb that it was a 3 week process from when the polls went up till you had beans. Sometimes we can do that in under 2 weeks but NEVER in 3 days....

FYI, it takes most of the suppliers 2-3 days to pack an order and thats after advanced cash payment for the beans. 1-2 days for the freight company to pickup the beans and deliver them here. Most banks take 1-2 days to transfer the money. Its 2 days work to divide the beans. 1-2 days to address and pack. Another day of courier and posting...... you get the idea. ;-)

    Anyhows....

    The polls are now closed!

If you missed-out on something it might be available (in small quantities) next month when we know whats left and/or not paid for.

....and we are hopeful that some of the orders will ship Monday, most Tuesday and by this time next week everyone should have a new pile of beans in their roasters and grinders.

    thanks andy

all the earlier comments make sense now.. i stupidly hadnt read the new how the polls work post, and the e-commerce look gives the impression that we had moved from a pre-pay pooling system to a andy-buys-bulk first setup.. maybe we could have a link to andys post above on the bean bay page for other total newbies like me :P

totally looking forward to my coffees/tea :)

Not that it makes the slightest bit of difference, but clicking on my current order it states that it was shipped on 5/09/06. ie. it was (past tense) shipped on a date sometime in the future. hmm.

I feel much better knowing that, thanks for your service to the planet.

Please ignore the below image, the Doppler Effect as we knew it now has a different formula.

    Re: September Polls

Yup - It has to do with the temporal relativity effect of coffee, as discussed in the paper by Kopi Lott "Discussion of the generation of anomolous temporal distortions by botanical specifics of family Rubiaceae, Coffea Arabica & Coffea Robusta"

The paper outlines the influence of critical mass quantities of coffee beans on local time. "I needed it yesterday" is not an impossibility where coffee is concerned as that anticipatory instruction once given becomes was-will-be-is given and thus the beans are always in a transitory state of many places and one place. Currently the beans are corporeal in one place but existing in-potentio in many.

I myself successfuly roasted my as-yet-to-arrive Indian Tiger Mountain beans yesterday in preparation for their arrival later this week.

In this way it is possible to roast and consume an entire Coffee Poll before you physically receive the beans.

    ##################
    Coffee Beans have freighted
    ##################

The beans for everyone who paid promptly shipped this morning so most of you will have the beans tomorrow or Wednesday. *

The Di Bartoli pickup beans have been freighted to Sydney and should be there in plenty of time for the Saturday arvo pickup.

The Veneziano pickup beans are all packed and Ill deliver them Saturday morning (see yas there)

Anyone who was slow in making payment (ie: paid late in the week or on the weekend) your payment may appear in the bank account today and your beans will get shipped later in the week.

...sipping on a Mountain Mist triple at the moment... ahhhh... your going to love this one and I hope we can get it again in the future.

We have some more great coffees lined-up for next month already and depending on suppliers timetables we will aim for another poll that overlaps the end/start of the month.

    Enjoy!
