    Re: January Bean Bay

So will automatic email notification of the real January bean bay still work, or will the system think thats already happened? Will this thread need to be deleted/renamed for it to work? Or is the next one not until Feb anyway?

Well... we will all know whos fault it was if there is confusion.

    Please address all correspondence to:
The cheeky bling bloke in the west.

    :)

The first BeanBay will be in a couple of weeks after all the suppliers and the the members come back from their Summer time-off. We will aim to have beans shipped to everyone from that BeanBay by early Feb.

...so it will be titled February BeanBay!

We need a definite venue, if its OK with your parents maybe we could use your place?

We have nothing set in stone, can you recommend somewhere central we could meet that would be ok to store un claimed beans in case someone doesnt turn up?

$20 if you get one from the warehouse.

Nothing more gratifying than roasting your own beans.

    Re: January Bean Bay

I roast green beans for a couple of people who buy them but are not confident to roast their own - slowly though I manage to move people in the direction of home roasting. I bought my mother a popper at Christmas and gave her a good supply of green beans - she rang the other morning thrilled at just having done her first roast.

If I was in Vic Poddy I would be happy to help out - but I fear the postage to and from WA would be a hassal!

Hi Poddy- I understand that David Makin is running/plannng to run a roasting course at First Pour.

I have/had also written a Home Roasting course for the coffee academy but unfortunately it died due to lack of interest *:(.

Id be happy to take a 3 hour session at $100 per head using a variety of roasters if we could get a group of 4-6 people in Melbourne together (this could even occur at your place if you can assemble a *group). Notes on origins and home roasting techniques *supplied as well as a CS sample pack ;-)

BeanBay is open at a specified time and date (advertised here in advance)..... and at that time you enter the BeanBay part of this site where all items on offer will be listed (beans and maybe tea as well).

You then select what you want (in 2.5Kg quantities or multiples thereof) and proceed to the checkout where you can pay with Paypal or arrange a bank deposit for the beans.

For the first hour of trading the server almost stops at times- struggling under the load. To get the best selection you have to be there at the start- some quantities are low and disappear quickly!!

You have to be a registered user to "bid" so go into BeanBay and complete your account details prior to the day.

....... then just wait and join the feeding frenzy on the day!!! CoffeeSnob buyers are more aggressive than piranha when green beans are on offer!!!

Well that is really a personal choice (and money) issue.

Poppers work really well.... they are cheap and produce a "brighter" taste in the cup. They are limited in batch size and are affected by ambient temp quite a bit.

The "Corretto" - bread machine and heat gun is a step up from the dog bowl, manual stirring and heat gun... IMHO works brilliantly, reasonably cheap produced more mellow coffee in the cup, batch sizes from about 150 grams up (some have done 1KG) virtually unaffected by ambient temp.

There are various other versions of home made roasters which are similar to the Corretto.

The next step is the commercially made roasters which the site sponsors sell.... all work very well but cost more.

Have a read through the "Home Roasting - Tips, Tricks etc" threads - lots of good info there!!
