    Melbourne Pickup at First Pour

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi Guys,

Hoping to see some of you at the green bean pickup this Saturday at First Pour.

Some people have contacted me to say that they cant come on Saturday. Its also a bit of an inevitability that some people will intend to make it and have something crop up. What I will do is to set aside a coffeesnobs cupboard to keep your bags in and Ill make sure that the bags are labelled with your name. That way, if you come in early in the week, Cassie will be able to give you your stuff easily. Little hint: Cassie has been working on her latte art lately, so if youre in the mood for a coffee, ask her for a drink with some moo juice in it.

For this Saturdays entertainment, I thought Id have a spare grinder sitting around to burn through some home roast if anyone wants to bring some in for fun. We can run it through a machine or we can just run it through a French Press for that "cupping without the mess" taste. Im hoping that our illustrious leader, Andy, will take me up on this because my mouth is still watering from the so-called "crappy blend" that he brought to one of the William Angliss bean pickups last year!

    Cheers,

    Luca

Thanks for looking after us again Luca!

And that wonderful Chocolate powder that Fiona and I bought....I came home straight away and made one! *drools* *;D

It was great meeting up with everyone again.

And that Gene Cafe roaster is a little bit closer to being part of my coffee setup. Thanks for bringing that in Chris and letting us drool over it*:)

I roasted the Ethiopian Yirg today. It smells fantastic, cant wait to try it

    Hi Luka,

For those of us that happened to be riding motorbikes around the Reefton rather than picking up beans, what are the opening hours at the shop? And are there any times we should avoid?

    Thanks,

    Al

    Got down to First Pour yesterday to pick my beans up;

first of all, thanks Andy - Im sure theyre going to go down a treat..

second of all - what a cool space! Its a great setup Luca; must be a blast having that big chest of drawers and little roaster to play with (never mind the big roaster next door). Thanks also to Cassie for helping me out and showing me round (and now Ive got a benchmark to score my own coffee against. Not my latte art though - not in the same sport as her, let alone the same league).

I also picked up some Monsooned Malabar while I was there, just out of curiosity, so Ill have quite a bit of playing around to do tomorrow.....

    cheers

    Hi Linda,

Youll have to let me know how the yirg turns out; I havent roasted mine yet. As for the chocolate - I didnt realise, but the CS members that came in bought the lot; weve had to order more!

    Hi Al,

First Pour is open 8am to 5pm week days and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. There are no particular times to avoid, but if you want to chat about anything in particular, there tends to be more time after about 2pm.

    Hi "J" ;p,

Cassie constantly beats me in pour-offs. I bought in some 180mL tulip shaped cups to shake things up a bit ... got a bit closer this time, but I had to admit defeat. Then Con from 7 grams dropped by and schooled us both with a double rosetta!

    Cheers,

    Luca

Thats impressive. Will it count if I draw on my latte with liquid paper?
    (thats one funky cup, btw...)

And I noticed there wasnt any chocolate there on Tuesday....(curse those coffeesnobs)

Went to First Pour today to pick up my beans. Cassie was roasting a whole bunch of blends for competition. Very nice of her to chat to me about roasting as I am a noob =]

I again have seemed to missed Luca on my 2nd visit there....maybe next time pal. ;D

Re: Melbourne Pickup at First Pour

    Hi,

Im new to this whole roasting business. I dont quite understand the process of ordering and picking up green beans from Coffee Snobs. I hope someone can help answer my pretty basic questions.

Firstly, I have purchased a starter pack from bean bay and they have arrived. Now when I go to "Bean Bay" in coffee snobs, no items come up. How do I go about ordering more green beans?

There seems to be a pickup spot at first pour. Is there a Melbourne date coming soon? Do you just show up and buy green beans, or do you need to pre-order on bean bay and then pick up? Im a bit confused by the process.

Is there a bit selection of green beans available, or does the selection change monthly?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can educate me on how to buy these amazing green beans!!

    Cheers, Mary

Mary, Andy Freeman will soon let everyone know by email, and by posting here, that this months beans are available for ordering.

The moment is of his choosing!

We are all anticipating this monumental monthly event.

There is certain to be quite a variety from which to choose. You simply click on the quantity of beans you want, transfer the money into Andys dwindling bank account, and the beans will arrive by courier at your nominated address a few days later.

Or, you can save the $10 courier cost by picking them up from whatever this months agreed place is.

    Hope that explains it.

    Hi Mary,

Shouldnt be too long until the next poll; please make sure to introduce yourself if youre in our neck of the woods.

We always have our own greens avaialble at First Pour, but our stuff will always be more expensive than the stuff polled through coffeesnobs.

    Cheers,

    Luca
