Im running low!
I must remember to pick up some this BeanBay, my stash running quite low too!
I hope the Kenya A will be as good as last years Kenya AA, I really liked that one!
Also, is there any reason I can no longer get my beans couriered to me? Maybe I missed a change in how everything is done?
No change, John.Originally Posted by itsme5k link=1203381514/0#2 date=1203387359
Read Andys last line.
Q: Is this months Nicaraguan offering anything like the Altiplano?
I am going to be sitting in front of the computer screen by 20:00 tomorrow, so I wouldnt miss it this time !
Could we have the descriptions please, please :-)
The list and what I already have does help me decide.
Another vote to have the descriptions in advance ;)
Could you imagine the rush that would cause.... as if that isnt bad enough already ::)Originally Posted by marco link=1203381514/0#7 date=1203410517
At least whilst people are reading the details it gives others a chance to get some beans as well.
Pre armed with all the details the quick ones amongst us would rush in and grab em all.....
I feel the way Andy does it now is far fairer to all members (even if it upsets a few :))
Dash, another Wednesday night beanbay! :( How bout we offer half the beans one night and half the beans another night just in case someone (like, er, me) has a standing appointment on the BeanBay night? Would also be some consolation for those who at 8pm happen to be answering the door, finishing a roast, resuscitating the budgie or are otherwise detained and come 8:05 find nair a cotton bag in sight!
Hmm...didnt think of it that way...Originally Posted by JavaB link=1203381514/0#8 date=1203410900
Actually... it might be Andy trying to add to all the excitement :D
Well actually even with descriptions not posted until the time I notice that some of the coffees reduce in available quantity in a few seconds! I do hope some of the more technically literate folks here are not automating their screens :-)
I dont think prior descriptions would have much effect.
And CoffeeSnobs is far too successful! Googling for some of these Indian beans this arvo gave me links to the CoffeeSnobs BeanBay Banter dated 19th Feb 2008 :-)
Nice positive post RH.Originally Posted by rayzurhed link=1203381514/0#1 date=1203386608
Thanks for the service you provide to your fellow Northern Islanders too!
Sure! Per the initial post:Originally Posted by speleomike link=1203381514/0#6 date=1203390350
"The beans, my notes and the photos of the actual beans will appear in BeanBay...."
Spot-on JavaB. We do try and get the balance right.I feel the way Andy does it now is far fairer to all members (even if it upsets a few)
No way! There are a lot of reasons why we do what we do and I cannot see that one working within the required framework. How bout we offer half the beans one night and half the beans another night
Similar answer... we have reasons that Wednesday works best. We used to move it around, business hours, after hours, week days and weekends and I got in trouble for that too!Dash, another Wednesday night beanbay!
The best bet is to get yourself a proxy bidder, someone who can jump-on as you and buy your beans and/or a local CSr that you can share an order with.
We might have it on a different day sometime but dont hold your breath.
Not really Nunu, the beans are a lot larger and washed cleaner. The cup profile is similar but I would expect that back to back the two would be quite different.Originally Posted by nunu link=1203381514/0#4 date=1203388246
Like RH in the start of this post, thanks also to you for the local pickup service. You guys are saving CSrs lots in freight!
We have lots of beans up this month, Im sure everyone who gets on the site when BeanBay starts will get something that will roast well.
Hmmm....I dont need any more green beans at the moment,
I dont need to spend any more money, at the moment....
...I dont need any more green beans at the moment,
I dont need to spend any more money, at the moment....
Im already committed to being somewhere else tonight anyway,
.......at least till about 2130...
Maybe next BeanBay.... :o
Wonder what RH is doing about 2100?
I can see that someone will develop a "Green BeanBay" automated buying software, similar to the last minute bid-sniper softwares for EvilBay that are around.Originally Posted by Andy Freeman link=1203381514/0#12 date=1203430010
Anyway, Im running low on beans and will be away from the computer tonight, so I do plan to enlist a (human) tonight. Looking forward to a new delivery ...
I cant see that happening as the beans are only listed at the time of Beanbay and without the information to tell the program what to look for it woud be be near impossibe to code. IMHO. Anyway. Its all about the thrill on being invoved in Beanbay and the tales you tell afterwards.
Ill be here like the rest of the CS community quickly reading, clicking and spending away.
Thanks to a few helpful CS proxy bidders I should be able to get some beans tonight! Thanks guys! :)
A few? :oOriginally Posted by Greg Pullman link=1203381514/15#16 date=1203486794
Sounds serious. Hope theres some left for the rest of us, Greg. ;D
Wouldnt want to do it any other way, the whole excitement thing is the best rush ever.
Any way a little taste and preference knowledge should lead you in the right direction, by the way african rules
Well theres 20mins before the Beanbay gates are opened...and Im sittin here with my fingers at the ready....... if I miss out this time.... heads will roll :D ..she says with just one double shot of drinkable roasted beans left in the house. ::)
I have got to stop dreamin that I still have a packet of roasted beans up in the cupboard and Ive got to get my stocks up so that Im not using my beans up just a few days post roast.
I suck at this game!
waiting,waiting,waiting. Its getting closer
x-minus 6 minutes!!!and counting..................................
Mysore Nuggets and monsoon malabar ordered and paid for....... bring em on :)
Nice and smooth as always, grabbed some Mysore and some Nicaraguan.
Another successful, pleasant and FAST transaction.
I went tri-continental grabbing some Mysore, Nicaraguan and Kenya.
Chosen, Ordered, Checked Out and Paid.... and its only 9.05pm :)
BeanBay... you ROCK !!! :D
Beans ordered and money paid... all by 9:05! Once again Andy, thanks for the awesome job you do!
Monsoon Malabar and Kenya A .........................yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too went the tri nations of Kenya, Indian Mysore and Nic.
All done and paid for.
Just bought some and I still want to get MORE MORE MORE.... *;D
Snap lochness, nice choice.
I was mostly going for the high altitude, but as always, found more.
Its going to be great to have a food festival pick-up in Melbourne..... Cant wait.
This is a big haul tonight. 20mins into Beanbay and all beans are still available with over 500 kgs still on offer. If anyone complains there wasnt enough beans tonight they should grown their own.
Just couldnt help myself after missing the last beanbay, so I got the lot! ;D
All paid4, thanks Andy.
Whoohoo!!,.. gees what a fight... but I was in and outta there in about 6mins I think with my booty of;
India Mysore Nuggets A,
Indian Monsoon Malabar AA, and
Nicaragua High Grown Bold
Since 2.5kg is the minimum quantities and I did not want to miss out again,.. I bought them anyway knowing this is way more than I could consume alone. So,..if there is anyone in Canberra who would like half of my booty sing out and we can split them. It will cost you half of what I paid and half shipping to Cruiserman,..total being $49.40. Would prefer a Northside, Belconnen or Gungahlin CSr where I travel about a lot,.. but if not,. Im sure we could arrange something anyway. *First PM gets it. *
Hope it is okay to do this Andy,. and Im not breaking any rules,..apologies if I am. *It was the only way I could see how I could get a nice stock of green up. But will try to make this kind of arrangement prior the next Beanbay sales hopefully.
Got india mysore nuggets and kenya A and some espresso wow for the boss at work. I did add some nicaragua but it must of fell out of basket because it wasnt there when i went to pay.Maybe my parcel was full?
Can you shed any light on What happpened Andy?
Had fun, wanted to have more than I can afford, they all sound good.
I Got some Kenyan, Monsoon Malabar and some Kappi Royale for variety. *Also some of Andys Mocha Java to find out what to aim for as my roasts dont seem like what others describe.
Andy: my bank site is down... will transfer $ asap
Remy, the greenies (depending on the processing, & how you store them) will last ya fresh 2-3 years ...Originally Posted by Remy link=1203381514/30#32 date=1203503641
When you roast them ... THAT determines their considerably shorter shelf life.
Stockpiling is an unfortunate by-product of being an enthused snob, who when examining their assortment realises that they could always do with "that extra SO"! ::)
Welcome to the bug ;)
Andy- its like when I go to the supermarket for a loaf of bread and then end up with dozens of other things-
The bags! I knew I needed them- and then there was the beans and so many lovely ones to choose from - who can choose?
Just a note- it seemed not possible to order more than 20 bags. I tried clicking it a couple of times :(to no avail. 20 will be fine this month- but maybe there is a trick to it for next time.
Thanks very much- all paid for... cant wait for the big day... ;D
Its like a birthday every month ::)
Good grief!!! I didnt know that. *Thanks for the heads up.Originally Posted by GrindOnDemand link=1203381514/30#35 date=1203504394
Oh well.. Ill keep the offer up and if someone wants in,. then thats cool. Will mean I might be able to afford to Beanbay it next month and the month after and... *
Thanks........... I think. :-/ *;) *Somehow I dont think my husband will understand whats going on in the pantry when the food storage space gets smaller and smaller.Originally Posted by GrindOnDemand link=1203381514/30#35 date=1203504394
When you walk into your walk in robe and all you can smell is greens then youre hooked, and buy the sounds of it you already are.
I logged in at 22:00 and noticed quite a lot left; some of each.Originally Posted by The Goodies link=1203381514/30#30 date=1203503149
Im trying to reduce my stash.
Remy! Correction. After roasting tonight Im down to 78kg.
Some looked tempting but Ill be strong this month.
It would appear to me to have been a pretty good Bean Bay this month with so much on offer; no one should complain they couldnt get the bean/s they wanted.
Well done Andy.
OMG.. thats some serious coffee obsession [smiley=laugh.gif]..hmmmm..I do have a tonne of space in there come to think of it(and could easily make heaps more space cos all my clothes are crap). Loads of shelf space. Its cool in there yes,..dark most of the time and I could hiiiiide it in there way better than I could in the pantry,...plus if the ensuite floods I can bean bag it quickly to stop the carpet getting wet.... yeah it could work. No, no stop it! Im putting a few bags in the pantry is all. :-/ ;DOriginally Posted by martybean link=1203381514/30#38 date=1203505862
Remy face it you are addicted just like the rest of us.Next beanbay you will get more greens soon you will have 78kg in your walk in robe, pantry laundry and anywhere else thats cool and dark.
I have about 10 kg of beans in my wardrobe and I only started buying August last year
Oh thats terrrrrrrrible,.. youre running out!! :POriginally Posted by Thundergod link=1203381514/30#39 date=1203506504
Well my grand sum of beans is;
Green is 1.5kg. Brown 300g(1 day post roast >:( )
And not one bean (ooh must check the patio out back) in the house that is drinkable. No grounds.
Note to self: Just because there is a valve coffee bag standing up in the cupboard, doesnt mean it has beans in it that will last until your next roast is ready! *smack*
Martybean thats funny because that is where I used to store mine.
The smell was getting a bit overpowering so bought a big wooden trunk.
Damn thing is almost full now too.
I confess... it has been 5 minutes since my last conf..erm coffee and already Im thinking of my next shot.Originally Posted by martybean link=1203381514/30#41 date=1203507117
I also confess,.. I bought 10kg of greenies tonight,...offering to give up half but secretly wishing I could keep em all Mwaaaaahaahaahaha [smiley=evil.gif].
Im not addicted,.. Im not..really..nope no way. Ok so I got an excitement headache tonight because of BeanBay big deal,..means nothing. :)
Withdraw the offer, Remy, otherwise youre going to roast a batch, have a couple of cups and realise that its a coffee that you really, really love. Problem will be that youve given half of it away and now youre stuck spinning the remaining beans out until they appear in beanbay again. If you decide that you dont really like a particular bean and cant come up with a blend to use it in, that will be the time to offer the beans to someone else. :)
Bank online again: Payments Made
Got some Malabar and Kappi Royale - thanks for the robusta, missed the last one so been hanging to get a batch to sit on and it looks great so yeah, cheers!
Can I just add 5% pre-roast or does it really need a separate roast?
Thanks again Andy!
As much as I would really love to keep it all,. darling hubby who has absolutely no appreciation for quality coffee would be far from thrilled when I haul 10kg of green beans into the house and answer his question of how much I spent. You and I know their real worth,..but my hubby...hes not a coffee drinker and coverting him over is going to take some time...if ever. Hes a hard nut to crack and may be too old ;) to change now hee hee. If I were to keep it all,.. I really would have to hide it in my walk in robe to avoid conflict and the start of beverage war in this house. ::).... hmmm wonder if I can store it someone elses house....narr...get a grip.Originally Posted by Viviane link=1203381514/45#45 date=1203536155
You may want to use the tactic of explaining how much youre SAVING in buying so much green. And the more you buy...etc..
Also, this is the only place you can get it where the quality is so good and you wont have to waste any by tossing out bad batches...
And it only comes around once a month...what if you miss out next month and you run out? Youll have to start buying expensive brown beans again.
Umm... you know where Im going.. Not that Ive used these excuses (I mean reasons) before... :-/
