I spy with my little eye some green beans to roast
Good line up this month Andy
CoffeeSnobs Monthly GREEN BeanBay sale
MONDAY 9th November 2009
20:00 ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
At the above date and times we will have the following *green beans appear in BeanBay
Colombian Volcan Galeras Supremo - Jumbo supremo sized beans (18+ screen) make this Colombian roast pretty. Clean, graded and easy to roast it will work through a range of roast profiles but I like it at CS9-10 where it produces syrupy sweet pours. Great as a single origin coffee or ad something wild and funky to produce an exciting blend.
Ethiopian Harrar Longberry
The new crop of the Longberry has arrived! *Great grading for a dry processed coffee and as soon as you open the roasted bag you get hit with the fruity berry aromas that Harar is famous for. *Light in body as an espresso but with a tighter pour it will become a heavier shot. *Great coffee and we have plenty of it.
Guatemala Huehuetenango SHB.
We have managed to source some more of the popular Huehuetenango (pronounced Wee Wee Ten Ay Go). *Good body, sweet and balanced its washed and very well graded and is easy to get good roast results with this one.
Sumatra Lintong Paranginan
This wet hulled Lintong is a cleaner roast than most Sumatran beans due to its low chaff. *Some roasters will choose to take this one darker without adding as much smokey flavours that can come from smouldering chaff. *It will produce a bright, lemony citrus coffee at CS8 suitable for syphon or even drip but I still enjoy it at CS9 as a slightly earthy, heavier espresso.
We have also sourced some more:
Sumatra Panjang Mandheling
Costa Rica Cafetalera Herbazu
If you got the Costa last time it would be nice if you leave this small amount for other CSrs that missed it.
* All pricing includes $0.50 FairCrack donation per kilo and cotton bag packaging.
Details on the pickup points around the country are in this thread:

Good line up this month Andy

Not just beans either, we also have new stock of teas and even some special Extra Virgin Olive Oil (bizarre but true)Originally Posted by 755158585B5B6175514D53513E0 link=1257684716/1#1 date=1257685636

How does one go about NOT buying more greens?
you go to Canberra and do my job for me and I go to the pub and try to pretend theres nothing on sale?Originally Posted by 4D454A4C441E1B2F0 link=1257684716/4#4 date=1257715545
Or we could just both go to the pub? No offence to Canberra.....Originally Posted by 4148534A414C44290 link=1257684716/5#5 date=1257715998
Yeah, I put it in live as we have it in stock. *As an interesting segway to Canberra... the owners of Masons Creek were in Canberra last week for the Australian Olive Oil show and won medals for this one (so its not only me that thinks its great).Originally Posted by 464F544D464B432E0 link=1257684716/3#3 date=1257709652
...and yes, the new tea,
Indian Camellia Sinesis STGFOP1 is in there now too.
Another great selection, Andy, thanks. And youve been upgrading the BeanBay Alert !? Very good. No excuse to miss it now.

I think Ill have to force myself to buy again as usual this time ... I have just paid for an ex-demo 2kg Has Garanti roaster which will arrive on my doorstep tomorrow morning :-) I need lots more to test it with.
Does anyone have the descriptions of the Ethiopia Kuza and the Costa Rica Cafetalera Herbazu from last time?
Congrats Mike!Originally Posted by 2122373E373D3F3B3937520 link=1257684716/9#9 date=1257725865
Welcome to the club 8-)
I know this is a really stupid question but its better to ask than be disappointed! Is Colombian Volcan Galeras Supremo what is commonly known as Colombian Supremo? I ask because I was given some Colombian Supremo and have found it the only green bean to date that I have enjoyed drinking as a result of my home roasting (I know, some people have no taste) and would be thrilled if Colombian Volcan Galeras Supremo is the same thing cause Ill order heaps!
Hi Addicted,Originally Posted by 2F352A37312037450 link=1257684716/11#11 date=1257726750
Supremo is generic Columbian for big (large). Andys Supremo is also big and you can be assured that there will be nothing generic about it. BeanBay greens are always exceptional *8-)
Thanks Chris. Not only am I now informed I am in a decision dilema - not a good state at the beginning of the week!

Slightly OT, but I read in the latest Cafe Culture magazine there had been a 15% increase in coffee roasting businesses in the past 12 months.Originally Posted by 6B687D747D777571737D180 link=1257684716/15#15 date=1257729166
Message to *CSers. Not sure if this is the right place but I am interested in starting a greenbean drop of centre/roasting group/ discussion group/whatever for the Central West of NSW. *Please send a PM if anyone is interested.

also those two were selected as the bean(s) of the month
you will get some more opinions there (apart from my BeanBay one)
The other place to research previous beans is the cupping room
Too early to find those two in there but worth keeping in mind.
I dont understand the question :)Originally Posted by 555D52545C0603370 link=1257684716/4#4 date=1257715545

Once again... to quote myself from the first post:
I think if for some reason any is left at 8:30pm then its free for all but with only 30kg it will go fast.Originally Posted by 1E313B265F0 link=1257684716/0#0 date=1257684715
:o I was going to get 2 bags - but seeing that is the case, Ill just try for 1.I think if for some reason any is left at 8:30pm then its free for all but with only 30kg it will go fast.
herb was sold out at about 10 secs after 8pm....... i did not get a look in.... :(
Herbie didnt even last 30secs, geez louise. Anybody who got some must mouse light greased lightning. put a bag in the basket and hit "GO" and it was already too late...BLAST! Whatd somebody buy the whole lot?
I missed out too, I think Ill go & quietly sulk in the corner :( :( :(
I was also after the Costa .. Herba. I didnt get any last time nor this time. It was gone so fast.
Ah well, thats the luck of the system. Nothing else seems to be disappearing. Where is the fun :-)
WOOHOO!!!!!!Originally Posted by 0D2A302136072B2222440 link=1257684716/25#25 date=1257757509
I missed Beanbay last time, and obviously this bean as well, so Im very grateful for my ADSL2+ 8-)
I wasnt greedy and just went for 2.5kg
Looking forward to sampling
...but those that missed out on the Costa can be happy that other CSrs who missed out last time got some.
...and if it makes you feel better I didnt get any either as so many missed out last time I put the lot up. So enough with the spilt milk please... as always there are plenty of other beans... including at least one that I thought would start a fight.
Well I got some, but it is for others, not myself.
Same, Internode Extreme didnt save me though *:( Hit refresh, was there, was gone..Originally Posted by 604B524156240 link=1257684716/28#28 date=1257758257
In sympathy now I have another 15kg of others instead.....Ah i see it now, it was all a setup to get ppl to buy other beans instead *;)
Assuming there will be no December BeanBay (same as last year?) so gotta last till end of January.
Well done Andy!
Really, what am I missing?Originally Posted by 5679736E170 link=1257684716/29#29 date=1257758360
I dont know if there is a Dec one yet... the gotcha is always the freight places and the docks "get in the spirit of the season" in a couple of weeks and you cannot get them back to work till early next year.Originally Posted by 6A4D574651604C4545230 link=1257684716/31#31 date=1257758735
If we can land anything interesting in time will put up a December BeanBay.
Im not saying.Originally Posted by 6A4D574651604C4545230 link=1257684716/32#32 date=1257758917
Herbazu was sold out about 10sec, I missed again. ;D
got Supremo, still happy. ;D
Great selection again - thanks Andy. Cant wait to roast Columbian style again.
Not as though we are going to run out of beans with whats still left in BeanBayAndy. There are plenty of great beans still there - in big quantities - ones, like the Longberry, that would not have lasted to the end of BBs held earlier this year.Originally Posted by 1E313B265F0 link=1257684716/33#33 date=1257759285
Aww, cmon. You want to see the rush, just for fun.Originally Posted by 19363C21580 link=1257684716/33#33 date=1257759285
Cool, well just in case I got enough, last year I was getting pretty desperate by Jan, even saved over some xmas money for beans. Not that i didnt have any left was just hankering the for excitement of another (BeanBay) sale.Originally Posted by 19363C21580 link=1257684716/33#33 date=1257759285
Grabbed much goodness, including the Costa Rica bean I missed out on before - thank you! WooHoo...
I sent you a PM - but here is the gist of it again...
Is it possible to add to my order? 10*250g Stand-up Valve Coffee Bags?
Invoice number 71244
Grabbed some Ethiopia Kuza to try "Thanks Andy"
I couldnt resist and had to click. Who would have thought that coffee would be an addictive drug...... ::)
Thanks for another great selection Andy. Money is in the bank - now the wait starts :-/
I had strict instructions to behave myself, consider were moving in less than 6 weeks now and Ive already got about 25 x 2.5kg bags for the removalists!
Id decided that if some Herbie was left over, Id grab some of that but, since I grabbed two bags last time, knew my chances were slim to none.
So just grabbed some of the beautiful sounding Olive Oil (quote from Pete: "What theyre selling Olive Oil in 2.5kg bags now?") and valve bags this time...
Its just about killing me, though, because I would have loved to grab some of the Supreme, the Kuza and Wee Wee... :(
Another great one, Andy and thank you for all your efforts. Sorry you didnt have any of the Herbie left over for yourself.
In many ways!Originally Posted by 656D62646C3633070 link=1257684716/40#40 date=1257760685
I think im more addicted to buying it than actually drinking it. Well I never collected stamps, action figures or anything else...so coffee beans it is then. Plus Ive never seen a coffee collection on "Collectors" yet so lets aim for that. ::)
I had to buy more I was down to 8 kilos so I was starting to panic *:D :D
what do you mean there is no Dec 09 bean bay ????
nobody told me that!!
back to bean bay then.....
Yay!! Some Wee Wee!!! ;D :D
Thank you Andy. See you in a couple of weeks to return your little parcel aswell. ;)
Money back guarantee on that one Gra... its a stunning coffee.Originally Posted by 192C3F5E0 link=1257684716/39#39 date=1257760082
You can see how hard it is to pick quantities although beans like the Peru Ceja, Brazil Pulped and the Harrar Longberry Im happy to carry as staples if we can get them in good quantities... it provides a buffer betweek seasons and shipments.Originally Posted by 38322730303F2B2D5E0 link=1257684716/36#36 date=1257759863
So yes, we should have plenty of stock this year to carry through the "I cannot find anyone at work except for myself" period.
PM, post, email... splattergun communication! Emailing andy@coff.... is always the best contact method for anything. I read that email address all over the place (ie: at the moment Im at the Snobbery, not home so I have web and email)Originally Posted by 3B333A3B3C3B3B5E0 link=1257684716/38#38 date=1257760030

Even more dangerous buying BeanBay beans from the boozer.
errr.... only if the postie drops it.Originally Posted by 163127352D5E0 link=1257684716/42#42 date=1257761122
I know the olive oil is a weird thing to have here but we are really enjoying this one at home and for the price of a box was happy to share. I look forward to hearing your opinion of its natural goodness.
There are a few of us that could aim for that.Originally Posted by 17302A3B2C1D3138385E0 link=1257684716/43#43 date=1257761237
Tradition has it that we skip December each year... but maybe we wont. The difference is this year we have a little more storage space than previous years so we can carry more beans into the new year.Originally Posted by 333F363B3B325E0 link=1257684716/45#45 date=1257762338

Another great list to choose from.
I was a good boy and stayed away from the Herbie. However, coming in @ 21:50 and still seeing loads of options, I found myself grabbing some Columbian and some Wee-Wee. I feel we should be calling it This litle Piggy coffee.
Cant make this pickup though. Have to go with delivery.
Thanks again Andy for the great selections!
Ordered some Ethiopian Longberry. My first CS order!
Im almost out of Yirga so ill be interested to see how the Longberry compares, Yirga being my favourite single origin.
