BeanBay GREEN sale - MONDAY 3rd May 2010

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    BeanBay GREEN BEAN sale

    Monday 3rd May

2000 QLD, ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS (8pm)
    1930 SA, NT
    1800 WA
    http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au

The beans available at the above date/times will be:

    Cuba Turquino $13/kg*
This bean comes from an origin that due to political unrest and embargos means that it doesnt appear very often. This one roasted to a CS9 produced an espresso that was initially very sweet with a good body and then a long dry nearly peppery aftertaste similar to the tannins in strong black tea. A very unique coffee that we rarely see in this high a grade.

    Kenya Kagunyu AA $12.50/kg*
This is a washed, well processed bold bean with the unmistakable bright, citrus, sharp Kenyan acidity that makes it stand-up as a single origin espresso. This beans will take a lot of heat during roasting ending very bright at CS8-9 or take it to CS10 for some deeper cocoa notes.

    Venezuela San Cristobal $11.50/kg*
The San Cristobal is a large screen, washed and well processed beans from an unusual coffee origin. Easy to roast and good acidity make this a great single origin for milk based drinks. Our test roasts were at CS9-10 and were slightly sweet and well balanced.

Australia Mountain Top Estate Microlot - D10-205 $27/kg*
Double Pass process, Extra Fancy grade. A truly amazing single origin Australian coffee. Even as a green bean this coffee produces an amazing sweet, fruity smell that excites the senses and builds the anticipation of the roasted bean. In the cup it doesnt disappoint with a medium body full of sultanas and fruit cake with a sweet lingering aftertaste. Stunning!

    We also have stock of:

    Peru Ceja de Selva Estate
    Indian Monsoon Malabar AA
    Ethiopian Gambella Sundried
    Brazil Pulped Natural
    PNG Wahgi AA
    China Yunnan Hougu
    Zambia Munali Estate
    India Madikeri Robusta
    ...and more

    * prices include $0.50/kg donation to FairCrack. All coffees are packed as 2.5kg in natural cotton bags

Spoilt eh! We are working on some other interesting direct trade beans this year too, its always a long process to land them but well worth the effort to get amazing coffees.

Yes, same amazing processing but these are from a specific microlot, I can show you the actual row of trees these came from (which is pretty funky!).

I still have a small stash of the Bin35, I should do a side-by-side to see how they compare.

We will also have another MTC microlot next month, semi washed process though which in the samples gave bigger body and traded-off a little of the sweetness and fruit.

    Andy,
It looks like a toss-up between (rather than both) the two micro-lots of MTE.
Can you say any more about the differences so I can decide whether its this month or next for me?
    Thanks,
    Greg

:o You only get one go at MTE for the year normally unlike some of the other regular ones and this one sounds like a good one. When you hit 50kg+ like me then you have a bit of a problem (nearly 2 years supply for me I guess ::) ) But I am up for more anyway.

I see the USB logger/probe has sold out again, thats a shame as I had hoped to combine it with an order from this months bean bay. When is it likely to be available again?

Meters will be in stock again soon. We had a pile in last week and they all sold. We have more on the way though.

Go figure, sometimes I sit looking a $1000s of meters wondering what the heck Ill do with that many of them and the next minute you guys are tapping your fingers. As always around here... you snooze you....

Im still in Sydney so with any luck BeanBay goes off without a hitch. On the off chance there is a problem please drop me an email or give me a call and we will do our best to sort it out promptly.

I got 5kg of the Venezuela San Cristobal and 2.5kg of the Australia - Mountain Top Estate, Double Pass, Extra Fancy D10-205.

I was expecting there wouldnt be any issues getting the MTC, but how quick did it go?! Glad I got some as that is the one I wanted the most, like a lot of other people it seems.

    Great job Andy!

My first Bean Bay as well, squeezed my MTE purchase in between doing an urgent scan at work. Luckily I got a chance, another minute later I would have missed out. I can tell those who got some MTE it smells incredibly fruity as a green bean(I had a sniff when I dropped in to Snobbery 2 last week)

Re: BeanBay GREEN sale - MONDAY 3rd May 2010

Piranha frenzy indeed but yes, we have had some much faster.

The good news for those that missed this mirolot of MTC is that we will have the second one (pulped natural) next month. The farm is a finite size and this coffee is a very small percentage of a very small growing area so what we get is what we get depending on annual crop quality and quantity. We are still spoilt to access this much though.

Glad most everyone is happy and got some beans, Im going to go and grab some dinner now.

Logged into BeanBay too late to score a bag of MTE for myself. W-ell its a bit of a blessing really - I really need to reduce my stash and I still have some great beans left - eg a bag of Yemen that I wont crack until Im convinced I can roast it well.

Completely forgot about beanbay last night, made tea late then got sidetracked, no beans to be found today at all from the new lots :(

Snoozed and I lost badly :(

All the more reasons to reduce the stash in the cupboard and make the other half happy, dont want to lose my full shelf of bean storage though, as space in our ktichen gets taken quickly if its there

    Dagnabit!

Moving house this weekend kept me busy and without internet access... until now. No Kenya left, no no Aussie MTE.

Great choice Andy, its really getting hard to justify buying so much green coffee - just because wont cut it for too much longer!

We sent 11,000 emails (in fact, more than that because some people got two).

Check your spam filter, your isps spam filter, the address in your forum profile etc etc etc.

We get 100s of "out of office" and other email bounces so it might be that too.

We also twitter the sale each month and that also appears on our toolbar that you can load into your web browser. http://coffeesnobs.ourtoolbar.com

...also we repost the email in this BeanBay-banter section for those that miss all the above methods.

into one of the internets (many) black holes?
Check your spam filter, your isps spam filter, the address in your forum profile etc etc etc.
Sho nuff, an over enthusiastic filter at the gmail account was the culprit. Ill be sure to check there first in future. Actually received two notifications *:o

Reminds me of one of those "blonde" jokes :

"Two blondes walk into a bar.....youd think one of them would have seen it"
I get two notices and dont "get" either of them... ::)

It might be a good call from Gmail, we send a lot of emails in a short time and plenty of CSrs are using Gmail accounts so they see plenty of traffic from us which might look spammy.

At least you know somewhere to look (or allow email from) now... and yeah, watchout for the bar.

Received my Cuban, Kenyan and MM - great service (as per usual) and only 2 day delivery via snail mail.

Thanks heaps for getting the Cuban in, Andy. Cant wait to get into it.

    petar,

Andy is a busy guy. Try as he might, he cannot read every post in every thread.

He often says, the best way to ask him a question is via e-mail.

I know the volume shifted is somewhere between 1kg and 2.6 billion kgs per month.

    Brett.
