Oooh, i love this time of the month.
Four beans that are totally new to me, too.
Monthly BeanBay GREEN Bean Sale
Sunday 12th September
8pm QLD, ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
7.30pm SA, NT
The beans available at the above date/times will be:
Mexico Yeni Navan Typica $10.50/kg*
Typica is my favourite varietal in nearly all blind taste tests is also one of the original coffee variants. This Mexico Yeni Navan is grown at high altitude SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) and was certified organic at origin. A Typica varietal with dark cocoa flavour, good body and enough acidity to give a long, lingering aftertaste. A great single origin that worked best for me at a dark CS10.
Kenya Kakamega AA $12.50/kg*
In the last few years we have seen many price rises on Kenyan coffees as the demand outstripped the supply and after trying the Kenya Kakamega its easy to see why. This one has a crisp green apple type of zing in the lighter roast depths and the body continues to improve as the roast darkens. Great Kenyan coffee at a reasonable price!
Sulawesi Rante Kapua Torajah $10.50/kg*
After a long hiatus we have sourced more of the Rante Kapua. Roasted to a CS9 it was initially sweet with a cardamon type spice finish and a heavy viscous body. This Sulawesi drinks very well as a single origin espresso shot.
Sumatra Danau Toba $9.50/kg*
This is the first time I have seen the Danau Toba from North Sumatra. Wet hulled with a bluey/green appearance in colour. It roasts well with a few lighter beans in the finished result. It produces low acidity espresso shots with the mouth feel similar to cream. Slightly sweet with some savoury, earthyness at the finish makes this another great Indo.
* Prices include a $0.50/kg FairCrack donation. All beans are packed in 2.5kg cotton bags which are perfect for storing your beans in.

This delivery date is a best guess as we are often at the whim of couriers around the country. Generally when the beans arrive at the pickup point someone will post in this thread to let you know the time/date that you should meet for the pickup.
Feel free to discuss pickup point pickups and plan the social get togethers (eg: who is bringing cake) in this thread.
Oooh, i love this time of the month.
Four beans that are totally new to me, too.
Its got me beat how you manage to do this Andy! *:o
After last months effort I had decided to lay low a while and try to keep some pennies in the pocket.
After reading this months offerings, my mouth has started to drool in anticipation of the tastes ahead. So (based on recent news), I believe it could be the time and a wise investment, to stock up. *::)
Now there is a decision as to what I should select. *:-/
If in doubt, go for the lot I suppose.
Ill be operating with a slowed connection speed and will need to prioritise selections cos I think it could be a busy night.
Thanks, and good luck to other CSs.
nice selection once again andy.. will def be getting some of the Typica..
As always, they are all good so whatever you choose will be great.Originally Posted by 4F61726B040 link=1284058952/2#2 date=1284078208
I think we have plenty of everything so as long as you are there on time you should get what you are after.Originally Posted by 4F61726B040 link=1284058952/2#2 date=1284078208
I mentioned that I pick it out of blind taste tests, its not that I have super-powers, its just a variety that "does it for me" with much fuller flavours even when all the other variables are the same (eg: region, farm, climate, processing etc).Originally Posted by 7461706576040 link=1284058952/3#3 date=1284079666
Sadly (for me at least), most of the world is pulling-up typica as it yields much lower volumes of beans and they are planting some of the more modern hybrid plants that have better disease tolerance and bigger crops.
I often liken it to your grandmothers backyard grown strawberries... small, non-uniform colour and size but amazing flavours that you just dont get from those apple sized ones in the supermarket.
i was thinking home grown heirloom tomatoes when i was reading this.Originally Posted by 5D7278651C0 link=1284058952/4#4 date=1284108685
i used to love growing oxhearts etc waiting for them to turn red then eating them direct off the plant.....
hope there is some Typica for me on Sunday :)
cant wait. be there or be square :)
Anyone else getting the Low Stash blues? :)
Yeah its rather depressing; Im down to 84kg. :(
only 51kg :-X :-X :-X
102kg give or take... And definitely not skipping this BeanBay.
I dont count anymore, but if there is room anywhere in or out of the house, go for it :)
Im not sure I NEED any. But I cant say for sure that I wont be buying something. ;-)
I think its time to move some of the lesser used kitchen gear into the spare room to free up more coffee shelves. :-[
Me hi kano!!!!!
Picked up a little of each of this months offerings given theyre all new to me, along with some Limmu.
Paid straight away, as always.
Since moving last month Andys already incredibly cheap shipping options have gotten that much cheaper so i couldnt resist sampling each of the beans safe in the knowledge that it wouldnt push the shipping cost up.
Tremendous beans, best green prices in town and unbelievably cheap shipping.
I dont know how you do it, Andy, but please keep it up. *:)
Well wasnt planning on buying anything but it seems some Huey is now coming my way...........woohoo :D
Me too Mono!
Wasnt planning to get anything but now I have to explain to the missus why we have another 5kg of greenbeans sitting in on the shelves.
Thanks Andy! That was a surprise.
Had to try another Mejicano too and not jsut to try a typica.
Over 500kg of Sulawesi :o You must have cornered the market . I dont expect to see more requests for Indo beans for some time.
Ah shucks! Glad to be of service. We try really hard to ensure everyone gets amazing product, service and value. It also helps that I work for beans not dollars.Originally Posted by 636363290 link=1284058952/15#15 date=1284286090
We have to land a tonne to make the customs clearances worthwhile. There are other beans in those volumes too... "Im up to my eyeballs in beans" most of the timeOriginally Posted by 4F45504747485C5A290 link=1284058952/18#18 date=1284286588
Only because you dont have more beans than she can count. If you stash beans like I do no one notices another 5kg.Originally Posted by 4F5B405A42415B290 link=1284058952/17#17 date=1284286574
Yep, a huge and pleasant suprise as I missed out on it last time round.Originally Posted by 564259435B5842300 link=1284058952/17#17 date=1284286574

Youve got a point there, Andy! More beanbay action is in order!
No hassles even with the slow connection speed.
I have 2.5 of each the new BeanBay offering. :D
I was karmicly a bit slow for more of the Hue that was slipped discretely into the sale. *:-?
Got some at the last sale and just roasted my second lot.... loved the first roast.
So I am glad that others were able to pick some up. :)
Now, off to pay the invoice, sit back and wait for Andys smooth delivery service.
Well you can count me among the happy customers. My only complaint is you make it too easy ;DOriginally Posted by 59767C61180 link=1284058952/19#19 date=1284287157
Tonnes? What, do you have grain silos installed at the Snobbery now?Originally Posted by 59767C61180 link=1284058952/19#19 date=1284287157
Last post 8.39pm on Beanbay sale evening......
Down to 200gms. Definitely have to do shopping this week, or there,ll be famine and instant coffee. Bleh. One thing about working in hospitality is that we,ve learnt to value little things and enjoy what we have.
Oh poo. There I go, order my first lot of beans (having finished the starter pack) and what do I do?
Yup. Thats right. Totally and utterly fail to order a membership card. Sigh. Any chance you can slip one in for me, Andy? ;)
*cant wait for coffee to arrive, bounces up and down a bit*

Given that Andy is unlikely to see every single post here, best bet is to email him: andy@coffeenobs....
I didnt get an email to say beanbay was on last weekend (unlike past 2/3 beanbays)... Not sure about others ...Originally Posted by 595149435E3A0 link=1284058952/24#24 date=1284297357
That couldve been why it is so quiet ..
I got my email.
Email lists dont usually pick and choose who they send to.
Check your spam or junk folders.
What, the post or the fact that the thread is unusually quiet? :POriginally Posted by 0109111B06620 link=1284058952/24#24 date=1284297357

i actually had the same experience as friskhr - no email this time despite receiving them for the last year +. odd?
no worries from this end tho as was snooping around for ethiopian and picked up a few of this months offerings as well...
hmm, need to install a new shelf. cheers.
Some emails might not have gone out (10,000+ did) as the mail server had a hiccup 20 minutes into sending them. I thought about resending but then would get a pile of "I got it twice" emails so didnt. Damned if you do... damned if you dont.
We also post this thread up and tweet the BeanBay (which is also on the CoffeeSnobs toolbar) so there are plenty of other notifications if you dont get an email.
The gotcha this month was that I sent the email at 3am and it clashed with the post midnight backups and log building.
Live n learn.
The upside (and maybe why the thread is quiet) is that we landed heaps of everything so we didnt run out of any single bean. The volume sold is about par with other months and now we can carry some as stock for those that want to revisit something they liked or want to try something else later.
I am now convinced that I am becoming obsessed with coffee but especially home roasting and Bean Bay activity. I shall elaborate....... I have ordered some greens from this months offering and it is anticipated that they will arrive in Perth circa 24/25 September. Everything great so far. BUT, I will be in Melbourne that weekend at the AFL Grand Final (corporate invitation) and all I am worried about is arranging pickup of my beans.........
Is that sad or what??????
Corporate box at the grand final?
I think you should stay home and wait for the beans then you can post the tickets to me seeing that you wont need them that day.
(my evil plan is working)

not sure about new shelf, I have just had a new pantry installed, buggerd if I know where to put the beans - not that I told a porky to the husband who designed the pantry as to exactly how many green beans I had - nor did I tell him how much I ordered this time.....
think Im in trouble...... ;) ;D
Time to build a coffee centre onto the house ;) ;) ;D ;D :D :D :DOriginally Posted by 313254626F686671030 link=1284058952/38#38 date=1284386389
My greens just arrived. :)
Love the CoffeeSnobs insignia on the side of the box, Andy.
Is it new?
Yes its new.
I have a mate who works in the wool industry and he made me a "wool bale stencil" that says COFFEESNOBS. He dropped it off on the weekend with an ink roller to suit.
He also told me that there is a wool bale somewhere in the world with COFFEESNOBS inked on it too as they had to test it first. Someone will be scratching their head over that one.
Its a great look, Andy, well done.
Nice, too, because it allowed to courier to tell me he had "a delivery of coffee" for me.
Nary a phrase brings more music to the ears of a CoffeeSnob than that one.
I will just run your suggestion past No 1 husband ....................
Mmmh! Judging by the "sign language" I would say that you have Buckleys. Bet they serve rubbish coffee in the corporate box so I will just have to imbibe in a few bottles of mineral water :D
Another world first for coffeesnobs.com.au ;) ;DOriginally Posted by 1A353F225B0 link=1284058952/41#41 date=1284435679
I have just closed off the interstate pickup points and all the pickup point beans will be packed and freighted tomorrow.
Anyone who has not paid should do so now to avoid having to ship your beans direct or having your order deleted.
Nah Lyn, stash them behind one of the dogs kennels ;D He wont notice!Originally Posted by 06056355585F5146340 link=1284058952/38#38 date=1284386389

Has newbee-snob picked up her 60kg from your place yet?? Or are you the alternative storage depot?
*;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;)
Just logged in to find I missed another beanbay, Got emails for July and August, missed in June, but got several prior to that.
I just logged into the spam settings for my ISP and there is nothing in the logs for any of the days around the 10th when I assume the email went out. I have setup some extra rules in my spam settings now to ensure coffeesnobs emails get through but why do I get some but not all? and if it was being blocked it should show up in the logs.
OK I could install the Coffeesnobs toolbar, but I dont like running extra toolbars on my PCs. A coffeesnobs widget, now I would use that if it exists.
I may just bite the bullet and install the toolbar I shouldnt need to but Ill give it a go.
The next beanbay will come round soon enough and I will buy more beans then (if I dont miss it).
The answer (below) was already there for you chips. Plenty of ways to get notification- including hanging around here a little more ;)Originally Posted by 747F7E67642127170 link=1284058952/48#48 date=1284678687
