Monthly BeanBay GREEN Bean Release - MONDAY 17th Sept 2012 - 8pm AEST

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight

    MONDAY 17th Sept 2012
    20:00 AEST

8:00pm QLD, ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
    7:30pm SA, NT
    6:00pm WA

The new release beans that will appear in BeanBay are:

    El Salvador La Guachoca $12.50/kg*
La Guachoca is apparently the name of the quail like bird that's found on this El Salvador farm. The coffee is sundried, semi-washed and very well sorted. Packed in grainpro bags it arrives here in the same condition that it left the farm. In the roaster it's a chaff monster but easy to roast and control. Roast to high CS9 to expose the dark cooca flavours or for something interestingly crisp stop just after CS8. Velvet mid bodied and an excellent Central American single estate espresso.

    Hawaii Kona Kaipo $42/kg*
Hawaii Kona Kaipo is grown on the west side of the "big island" of Hawaii and is State of Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture certified 100% Kona coffee. Kona coffee exports are very tightly regulated (similar to JBM) and every bag is sampled before leaving Hawaii to ensure their good name isnt tarnished. Clean, washed, and well graded it produces a good bodied well balanced cup and is an easy bean to roast. Due to the high price this is packed in 1kg lots.

    Mexico el Triunfo Arabigo $12/kg*
Mexico el Triunfo Arabigo is shade grown, organic, fair traded and bird friendly and might be one of the world's most certified coffees. Produced by 25 small holder farmers the beans picked are mostly from an old growth hairloom varietal called Arabigo, Closely related to Typica the Arabigo is a bold full flavoured coffee in the cup with nice acidity, great body and a spicy savoury flavour profile. Roast slowly to a CS10 to get stunning espresso from this bean.

    * price per kilo packed in 2.5kg CoffeeSnobs cotton bags and includes the FairCrack $0.50/kg donation.

You can select direct shipping via Australia Post (express or road) and Star Track Express (air or road) along with some other options depending on where you live or you can collect your paid order from Morgan Street (when I'm there, late afternoons preferred).

    Pickup Points (one per state)
(only an available option for a couple of days either side of the sale date).

QLD - "Simon T" - Brissy (SORRY, no Brissy pickup this month)
    NSW - Erkochurch - Erskinville
    TAS - "ParaM" – Hobart
SA - Fiefys Specialty Cafe - Adelaide
    WA - "Greeman" - Warwick
VIC - Veneziano- Abbotsford - SAT 22nd Sept 10:30-11:30 only

We hope to get beans to all the pickup points by: 29/9/2012

This delivery date is a best guess as we are often at the whim of couriers around the country. Generally when the beans arrive at the pickup point someone will post in this thread to let you know the time/date that you should meet for the pickup.

Please don't annoy the pickup points by asking for your beans before they let you know in this thread they are available for collection.

    Enjoy!

    Please note...
no QLD pickup this month, next month should be fine though.

Delivery date for the interstate pickups is sometime before Saturday 29th Sept.
The 29th is also AFL Grand Final day (for those that care) so keep an eye in this thread for when the pickups will be.

    Oh... by the way...

Sorry for sending "$username" in the subject of the email.
Seems this forum software only supports usernames in the body of the email not the subject line.

    Oops.

    Hello Andy, how you been?
Bean busy and bean good Chris

Hmm, I didn't get the email. Maybe some bugs still in the system, Andy?
Nup, no bugs... and before we get a pile of "me too" replies in this thread:

I sent 23,897 emails to the email address that is saved on your "My Profile" at the top of the forum.
What happens to them after I send is up to your ISP, your email filter, spam filters... whatever else.

The monthly sale is posted on the forum, posted to Twitter, posted to Facebook and emailed.

Lots of chances to see it!

Yep, last one shipped today. as they say... you snooze... you...

The gotcha with all these small lot, high grade coffees is once they are gone they are gone till next season.

Yeah fair call Andy. My problem is that I always want to order more beans but get constantly reminded by the other half that I have 40kg in her linen cupboard!!!!

What is a reasonable stash for a household that goes through 700g/week? - probably off topic sorry...

Don't want to moan here, but is there any way you can send out e-mails before the sale? It's happened the last few times...

Edit: Sorry. Didn't realise I needed a Twatter or MyBook thing as well. I'll go sort that.

Andy, I have two of your new beans in my shopping cart but since there is no QLD pickup this month and I don't NEED the beans right away. I am just wondering how SMALL lot the lots are for the Kona and Mexican. No use spending extra for shipping if I can wait to next month. Or maybe there is a lay-by scheme?

Got an email tuesday morning .... Andy I get a lot of other "advertising" in my inbox each week. It seems odd that this is one that doesn't get through. I echo the sentiments of Smash Martian, Twatter and Blahbook are surplus to requirements. This is the one bit of advertising I want !!! You sure your ISP isn't staggering the email release ?

The beans I was referring to in my post were actually an old beanbay bean from March... So even though your email came through late the current beanbay beans are all still available
So you haven't missed out on anything really.

I got the email at 12:10pm today, about 45 minutes ago. Didn't go to spam, straight to my gmail inbox. Wonder where the delay came from

We had a lot of beans on offer (a LOT!) and the pickup points are still open although they might close Wednesday when I start roasting.

    Hi Andy,

Can't make Moka/Java without the Java. Just finished my Sumatran Aged Late Pick, and only got a little Sulawesi Blue left. Greenbay still has the Sulawesi Blue, and a little Flores. Any chance we might see some more Java beans soon?

I think the Sulawesi Blue would be perfect (more perfect than Java) in a Mocha Java blend.

The wet hulled blue has a much better body too.

    (reads like roaster poetry)

PS: can you keep a secret? We have a stunning Sulawesi Peaberry next month that would work well too.
    (but doesn't rhyme)

Just a wild guess, but 2 bags?

I take it the white bags are now collectors items?

Spot-on! All the green beans are packed in 2.5kg bags

    The exceptions are:
    1. monsoon which is packed in 2kg lots (same bags) because of low density / high volume
    2. anything over $30/kg odd is packed in 1kg lots (because of price)

I take it the white bags are now collectors items?
Not yet, we still have a lot of them and are phasing in the zipper bags on most beans in the coming months.

SA beans are ready to pick up @Fiefy's during weekdays from 1.30pm-3pm.

We are appreciated you are coming during the specific time due to the cafe high traffic during the other times of the day.

    See you guys soon

No green bags for me but white bags with a zipper! They will be handy when finished.

Thanks to Andy for the beans and to Fiefy for giving up some of her precious storage space for no reward but to help the coffee snobs community.

    Cheers

    Stinky.

I might well be wrong, but I suspect the description 'green bags' translates to 'bags for green beans'. The new white bags with zipper are also what I received a month or so ago. Unless there are actually green-coloured bags out there too?

Green beans in white cotton bags with green logo and a zipper!

PERTH PICKUP on AFL Grand Final day? I would have thought "bring Trevor a cold beer" would be the theme.

Not sure where this post should go, but we've noticed we're no longer getting the bean bay notifications. Its been a while since I've been on the site and thought that they weren't happening anymore. Any ideas why they'd not be coming through?
