Perth BeanBay Pickup Point - March

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
This thread is for discussions about the Perth Pickup point for March.

I expect that the courier will have the beans into Perth before the 16th March.

    OK grendel....

How big is your hoard this time (excluding the beans bought for your charity roast)?

I managed 5 KG of Tiger Mountain and 2.5 of PNG Marogogipe....

I bought a 2.5kg of Zambia AA just to give me an excuse to get to Epic for a coffee.
I havent finished my first 2.5kg of Ethiopian Yirgechaffe yet, more roasting required :)

And I thought my 12.5kg was a lot. Poor Corey will need a bigger back room at this rate. :)

Hopefully also get to this pickup date.

Im not into roasting as I just do not have enough time. Apart from working full time, three church services a week plus prayer groups and other associated functions, not forgetting being a husband and father, I run an espresso catering business for large outdoor events here in Townsville. Managing three vans, staff, stock etc, etc, doesnt leave me time to roast. We use a local specialty roast. I will however be looking forward to sampling Epics brew that everybody seems to rave about and meeting fellow addicts. As I am in town for a church conference, my time is limited. If however the bean pick-up stays at 3.30pm on Friday, I will see you all then.

Dale itll be great to meet a fellow snob! I seem to remember though that Epic closes early on a Friday and that we may be better starting at 3pm rather than 3.30 - Ill ask Corey what the story is and post back here.

Yes I remember from a previous post that 3:30pm is closing time on Fridays at Epic and Corey doesnt mine CS hanging around until about 4pm but I think I can recall that doors will be closed at 3:30pm and coffees orders have to be in by this time as well.

See quote from a previous post by Corey at Epic

We close at 3.30 on Fridays (4.00 every other weekday). Also be aware guys that although you are welcome to hang in the store after close as we pack down for the day, we will only be able to do coffee from 3.30-4.00 on Thursday, so get your orders in early :)

    Cheers,
    Corey

3:00pm would be a better start time to sample at least a good Espresso or Ristretto and maybe sneek in a cool looking Flat white with Rosetta latte art or maybe even finish with an delicate Afogato. *Yum, I think I better go make myself one of those, im starting to drool.

Nice work on the earlier thread - yes confirmed this morning that 3pm would be best - in fact essential!

I may even head up at 2.30 to have a really lazy Friday afternoon.

Nice use of the thread sandgropers.... this was exactly the intended purpose of them.

Dynamic toggling of the bean pickup dates/times/venues to suit the majority of locals as opposed to a random time selected as a "best guess" by me.

    ;)

Have fun at your pickup day. BTW: The WA shipment left this morning (errrr... that was Wed morning) so it should get across the country in plenty of time.

    Enjoy.

Ripper Andy - thanks for the update. Sandgropers always seem to have an independant bent. Of course, this wasnt supposed to carry through quite so much into local politics where Brian Burke seems to want to establish a government in exile. . .

The news from Perth is excellent with the beans having arrived courtesy of the sweaty russian courier who complains bitterly once a month about the terrible terrible load he has to carry.

I have photos of the beans on the floor at Epic - including my two sacks of Zambian for the fundraiser (thank you all again!).

What was really cool was that on the weekend I got to have a conversation with Dean of Five Senses and Kamran of Fiori about the best way to roast and blend these beans - awesome to get that kind of info from two master roasters. . .

Re: Perth BeanBay Pickup Point - March

Sorry guys, I couldnt wait, *I picked up my Starter Pack today, *"I RAN OUT OF COFFEE!!!!!" *I will still come on the 16th though to have a couple with the other CSs.

When I got home and looking through my starter pack I got a knock at the door. *I opened the door and the coffee beans god must have toyed with my anguish long enough and delivered my Prize "5 KG OF ROASTED COFFEE BEANS"

At the start of the day I had only what was left in my Bean Hopper (Which equated to about 2 or 3 coffees) *I could have only lasted the day out. *Tomorrow would have been grim. *But now this afternoon I am the proud owner of 7.5kg of beans.

5kg roasted and 2.5kg green beans. *I think I might have to store the bean for the moment as 5kg. *Is a lot of coffees.

Feeling like I just won the Bean Lotto, I was feeling generous and took over a 1kg pack to my father who is also a coffee drinker, (Although I dont like his coffees as much, (Fully automatic Saeco Royal Cappuccino machine) *Takes the fun out of making a coffee. *

And that was my day today.

As a parrot once said, "Whos a Lucky Boy then?"

Ill be there. Not to pick up beans as I have already done this. Not that I needed to now my 5 kg of roasted beans arrived the same day I picked up my greens.

I will have a coffee or two or three, not sure what to order. Some many choices.

    See You all there.

Yes it was good to finally put the face to some of the usernames.

Will have to get a good spot up north Grendel, then we do not have to pack the passport and lunch box for the trip into EPIC every month.

No not really that far, but we do lack a good cafe up the northern end. Most are the larger franchise groups who dont really care if you like the coffee or not but rather you drank it quickly and moved on to make room for another customer coming in for their milking slightly coffee flavoured beverage. (with cream and caramel topping)

You can just go in there and tell them your name and let them know you have some green beans to pick up from coffeesnobs. The packs will have your details on them.
