BeanBay Green Bean Release - November 2013

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    November 2013
    Released into BeanBay now:

El Salvador El Boqueron co op
    El Salvador El Boqueron
co op is located in the shadows of the San Salvador volcano and this high altitude produces a small dense bean. Clean and washed, it roasts really well and in the cup as an espresso shot you find a sweet mid bodied coffee with a sharp clean bite. This is the first time in nearly 4 years we have managed to land this bean and it's a welcome return.

    Panama Jaramillo SHB

Panama Jaramillo SHB High altitude coffee, washed clean and really well graded. This is a bit of a chaff monster when roasting but the results are a stunning Central American style coffee. Bright, mid-bodied with a great velvety mouthfeel and a sweet finish. Excellent grade, large bean.

    PNG Highland Naturals

    120_120_PNGHighlandNaturals.jpg
PNG Highland Naturals are washed but not polished like the PNG Wahgi. In the cup you will find a similar brightness and really good balance with a little more body than you come to expect from a PNG bean. I hope it becomes a regular to BeanBay, easy to roast and seriously great value coffee at this price.

We have also released Sarah's Espresso in the roasted section.

    Sarah's Espresso

Sarah won gold in the home roasting category of the Golden Bean roasting on a Behmor 1600. The blend she won with was 50% Sulawesi Blue and 50% Rwanda Nyungwe, roasted separately to the start of second crack, cooled slowly and then blended together.
While it's not possible for her to roast this in large quantities, I certainly can, so I've stolen her blend and will offer it here while we have the beans available. Not roasted by Sarah but hopefully I do a reasonable job of recreating her blend. It produces a good bodied espresso with a dash of dark cocoa in the finish that works really well as espresso or in milk based drinks.

    Enjoy!

She doesn't know I've stolen her blend yet (I'll tell her tonight), but I'm sure she will at least consider asking for a fee... but off-set against the invoice I would have to give her for upkeep of the horse I doubt that discussion will go for too long.

The Wahgi isn't gone, it will be back, I expect it to hit the water in the next month, should land either side of the New Year at a guess.

The Highlands will develop it's own following I expect, top value and similar style in the cup with more body and a touch of malt.

Hey Andy, I was wondering why we don't have Australian beans in the Bean Bay?

I am sure there is a good reason, like I have only been here a month so haven't seen previous beans, but I would love your commentary on Australian beans compared to others, thanks.

    Hello smokey,

A browse in the knockbox will reveal that Australian beans have often been seen in Bean Bay. There are none at present but Andy will no doubt have more when something special becomes available.

In the meantime, there are plenty of exceptional beans to choose from.

I've never roasted a PNG before.

What sort of profile am I looking for when roasting this in the GC?

My wonderful husband went to the snobbery without me and bought back the PNG Highland Naturals. Something a little different.

Wow. A CS admitting to not having tried a PNG before - courageous.

On a serious note, PNG beans are really easy to roast. Whatever profile to roast an Indonesian would do and it works over a range of roast depths. I prefer just into second crack but before rolling second crack.
I suspect you will become a convert.

Me too. Yemen is #1 for me. I'm just saying you will always have a bag or two of PNG in your stash from now on.

Smokey, there is a condition that you can only ever order one of these. Have you ordered one previously?

Still appears on the BeanBay link above for me, just has a note "You have ordered this item before, and you may not order it again." instead of the "add to cart" button.

Are you looking in 'Green Coffee' ?

Andy does't do pm's from or to anybody and is often way too busy, doing his excellent service thing, to regularly read posts on the forum.
As Andy has stated before................. if you want to communicate with him, send him an email! :-D

Sheeze... that's because you ordered one at 5:23pm last night!!!!

Check "My Previous Orders" and you will see the order you placed, with roasted coffee that will fresh roast and ship tomorrow (assuming you paid for it)

What browser are you using smokey? Try logging to the page with a different browser (though I can see the starter pack in Chrome, IE, and Firefox)???

Barry, I just tried Chrome, nah, no luck, still missing...

Maybe I clicked to order it but didn't go thru with the payment because I got caught up with work, then it timed out, thats most probable, but now the system says that I did order it and so then has decided to delete it...?

Shoot, just when I was ready to go back some beans too!

    AAAARRRGGGHHHHHH.

Smokey. Step away from the keyboard.

You ordered one last night (paid for) and because the order had roasted beans in it the order will roast and ship tomorrow (per the date at the top of the page when you ordered last night).

You CANNOT see the starter pack anymore as they are limited to ONE per person and you have already ordered it.

PLEASE refer to my previous reply, look under "My Previous Orders" and you will see order 142670 with a STARTER PACK, roasted beans and another item.

Andy, oh, yeah, just saw it, obviously I've been at my desk working waaaay too long today.... this is real embarrassing.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions but sometimes dumb people, like me, can get stuck like aaaaaaaaaaaaaa key on the keyboard when you spill coke all over it....

Andy, or anyone who can help.

Where would I be able to find Andy's tasting notes (Descriptions) on each bean that's been sold on BeanBay? I have a few beans under the bench that aren't available anymore and I haven't got your notes anywhere. I just wanted to start playing around with some blends and your notes would prove to be handy

Suspect the plum puddin would be a little more complimentary to coffee than either of my choices.

Heh folks, just wondering about the current crop in bean bay,
I've got a killer blend happening that uses some India Mullayangiri Geisha (which is no longer available) and I'm getting smashed with people at work wanting some bags of this blend for Christmas.....
Any ideas which of the Indian beans would best be 'subbed in' for this? I've got a few 100gms of the Elephant Hills left, but just on visuals alone, it appears a very diff bean to the geisha.
    Thanks for any tips!
    Cheers
