BeanBay Green Bean Release Aug/Sept 2018

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
BeanBay Green Bean Release Aug/Sept 2018

    Available in BeanBay now:

    Panama Rati Hartmann Black Honey

Panama Rati Hartmann Black Honey is a very special score. The Hartmann estate are renowned for pushing the growing and processing envelope.

The coffee fruit is left in contact with the seed for longer after picking, similar to a natural process then after the pulp is stripped-off the mucilage layer is left in the traditional Central American honey method. The unique combination of the two processing methods has produced a stunning fruity coffee.

In lighter roasts this is juicy and sweet, something like a peach cordial with lower than usual acidity. Stunning competition level coffee that is a bargain at $21/kg

    India Monsoon Malabar Gold

India Monsoon A grade large screen size monsooned coffee.

The coffee is left to dry on racks slowly through the wet and windy monsoon season and this unique process yields a light weight, large size bean.

Easy to roast it produces a crema monster in the cup with heavy bodied gelatinous crema and spicy, earthy flavours. Often enjoyed as a low acidity single origin, added to a blend to improve the crema and often the secret ingredient in an Italian espresso blend.

Due to the physical size of the beans this is packed in 2kg lots.

    ROBUSTA Java Jumbo gr1

ROBUSTA Java Jumbo grade 1 washed.
These are big beans, really, really big (like peanuts!). They are cleanly processed and look great when roasted.

Like all these Robusta beans, you will probably find that a longer and darker roast will suit them better. Try them as a single origin but you are most likely to use them in a blend to give it a kick.

    ROBUSTA Mexico Tapachula

ROBUSTA Mexico Tapachula - These are certified FairTrade and organic which is unusual for most Robusta beans. A little ugly but they roast well and are grown in one of the premium Mexican growing regions.

    ROBUSTA PNG East Sepik A

    PNG East Sepik A ROBUSTA
As part of our Robusta month, this gem grown in the North Eastern lowlands of East Sepik by a small co-op of proud coffee farmers who continue to plant and grow coffee under rising pressure of transport and processing overheads.

    ROBUSTA Uganda Bushenyi

    ROBUSTA Uganda Bushenyi
Clean and processed pretty well, these are easy to roast and are a bit milder than other Robusta beans.

    ROBUSTA Vietnam Lam Dong

    ROBUSTA Vietnam Lam Dong
Central highland coffee in a country that produces most of the world's Robusta. Clean and washed, they roast well and are the essence of Vietnamese coffee.

    ...the required fine print...
(with the exception of the more expensive 1kg lots and the bulky 2kg Monsoons) All BeanBay green beans are packed in 2.5kg zippered cotton bags, perfect for storage for up to 3 years when kept in a cool, dark and dry position. We ship paid orders out from the Snobbery Monday to Thursday and BeanBay will show the available shipping options and actual freight costs to your area. Larger orders are typically cheaper to freight per kilogram so we suggest ordering all your requirements at once. We also strongly recommend that you ship to an attended address (eg: work or grandma's house) to avoid delivery delays. Monday to Thursday we will ship everything same day that we receive payment for but please remember bank lag means it will take at least a day for your payment to get to us even though your bank took it from you instantly. If you want it faster, don't procrastinate, please order earlier for less stress and no reason to ask "are we there yet?".

    Enjoy!

What an odd assortment we have this month.
Apart from the return of the Indian monsoon and that stunning Panama (whole crop!) we have also landed a pile of Robusta beans.

We get a lot of queries from CS'rs who wanted some different regional Robusta's to try in their Italian style blends and we managed to collect a wide range of them all cheap and cheerful at $8/kg and fun to have a play with. Hopefully we can keep this collection in stock so people can use them where needed.

As a rule of thumb (on my roaster) I'm dropping these into the cooling tray with 10C-15C higher finishing temperatures. It's tricky to get them dark enough without getting burnt flavours but when you get your temperatures right you will know.

    Enjoy!

I love that Indian monsoon... but that Panama sounds grand. I’m swimming in green beans at the moment but that black honey Panama is awfully tempting... I’m not sure if it was yellow, red or the black honey style but I recently tried some honey processed Colombian and it was fantastic...

Get behind me evil BeanBay temptations!!

Hi Andy (or others that can help) I’m interested in the Panama Rati Hartmann black honey but drink my coffee with milk (piccolo or latte) and wondering if this bean will be great in milk or a waste?

also any worthwhile partners to blend it with to make something special?

Have you had a look the Hartmann's thread in the Cup Tasting Room or searched for hartmann in the Blending Room forum? Posts/Discussions of the type you are looking for are better off in those two forums rather than here where they will be buried away when the next Bean Bay happens.
