Looks great andy as usual ;D
The next BeanBay green bean sale will be on Wednesday 17 October at 9pm AEST.
20:30 SA, NT
21:00 QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC
The beans on offer are:
Peru Grace Villa Estate $9.00/kg *
One of the all time favourites on CoffeeSnobs, a really easy bean to roast evenly and it works well through a wide range of roast depths to produce a medium bodied coffee with great mouth feel and flavours.
Dominican Barahona AAA $12.50/kg *
Large beans and excellent processing produces a medium bodied, creamy mouth feel with a sweet front palate. Compared to Jamaican both for the fact it comes from a Central American island and its cupping style.
Honduras Extra Bold $9.50/kg *
Mild, mid bodied and shows great chocolate tones in a darker roast. These are very well graded beans and produce great looking and tasting roasts.
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe $9.00/kg *
Lighter bodied with a banksia rose style floral aroma that explodes from the grinder. One of the best grades of Yirg we have sampled for a long time and it should get some awesome member reviews after it hits the snob roasters.
Decaf Mocha Java (Swiss Water processed) $13.00/kg *
If you have to loose the caffeine or a looking for a late night shot then this decaf is one of the better ones we get for home roasters. As an espresso it is less that inspiring but for milk based drinks you will stun most people that this is actually a decaf.
* all coffees will come packed in cotton bags in 2.5kg lots and include a $0.50/kg FairCrack donation.
Looks great andy as usual ;D
I want to try and get some Yirg as never tried it before.
Yirg is great definatly get some of that
Sounds good - last time i dont believe there was a pickup destination on the sydney north shore. If there is a demand for this can i raise my hand as offering one? I am located in st.ives right off the main road (monavale rd) so it is easy to get to and with a wife with babies at home just about any time anyone wants to pickup will be possible.
How many kg of each expected to be in stock Andy, via the forum frenzy, just so I know how quick to order ...
Easy answer to that one....There will be plenty o beans for those who want some....but, if you have something specific in mind, its in your interest to be in the right place at the right time ;)Originally Posted by GrindOnDemand link=1192525322/0#5 date=1192535038
Ta Chris ;)
Looks like it might be a good option Anthony but with 3 Sydney points already we run the risk of spreading it too thin to keep the costs down.Originally Posted by anthonyd link=1192525322/0#4 date=1192533820
If northern Sydney people think this would be good next time leave a message in the "SYD pickup thread" so we can get an idea of interest for the future.
And we will have some more of the very excellent
African Red Drinking Chocolate
What processing method has been used on these, Andy?
Thanks for the Peru GVE,
How does it compare to the batch earlier this year?
Only had a bit of this from the starter kit, but seemed to get it perfect every time and to date has been one of my favorite beans for SO espresso and has to be one of the easiest beans to roast.
I also look forward to trying this one as a base blended with something a bit brighter/fruiter (possibly even the CR from last BeanBay) too as I just think it would taste nice to me ;)
Ill also try the Yirg this time as I have heard it mentioned all the time yet never had a chance to roast it :)
They are all washed coffees this month with the exception of the Decaf that has been "swiss" washed so much all the caffeine came out.
How does the Peru compare John?
I cannot pick a difference. tis one of the most consistent coffees that we get, organic, well graded and like you said very easy to get a great roast out of it.
...and a first crack like gun fire.
I wont be too sure how they compare, since the last time I had it was a few months ago and with a different roasting setup and machine.
All I remember is the cracks were very easy to hear, and FC and SC were in distinct groups (guessing this is due to the even bean size and/or moisture content).
The roasts also looked very even. Cant really describe the flavour but it was very balanced (to my taste) with quite a dry initial flavour and an aftertaste that lasts ages which gets sweeter as it fades away.
Was the only one I liked as an espresso from the starter pack which also included the Peru, Harrarr, PNG PB and India BeanBay robusta.
This was also due to my roasting tho as I have enjoyed the PB and the Harrarr as espresso recently also.
Hope I have as much luck with this batch :)
Are you continuing to offer the free freight to the central pick up points?
That was a once-off BeanBay brown sponsored event sinkas, we might do it again one day though.
Oh no ... wheres the Peru... or am I blind?
Nope. i cant see it either.
Wow Andy - must be amazing seeing the beans disappear from your end; was good fun hitting refresh and seeing them fly!
Thats what I was wondering. Perhaps Im blind too.
Thanks Andy- all done. looking forward to roasting. ::)
Moneys been transferred. 8-)
I was hoping to get some of the peru as well, but cant see it, Oh well :(
Ditto the Peru.
Done and dusted, paid.... But it pays to be quick. I think the first sold out sign appeared within the first minute -- for the yirg.
Peru just went up!
Peru is now there.
Yep got some Yirg, Peru and some Choc.
Thanks again Andy. 8-)
Yay - got some Peru ... worth the wait.
Not too sure why the Peru Grace hid... :(
sorry for the brief grief but its there now :)
Also wondering about the Peru, it was my no 1 :(
Got some, ta ;D
Peru is back!!!!
Must have been a glitch
Whats with the Sumatran Mandheling? Is that a remenant of a previous beanbay? Id love some...
Thanks Andy for another pleasant painless BeanBay experience.
My frown turned to a huge grin when the Peru was revealed as a late starter.
WOW!!! hot action on beanbay -green
oh well checked out before the Peru come up :(
bought a temp meter instead :)
This was my first purchase! *Has anyone else ever gone crazy on their first time & bought more than they originally intended? :o
Some of those went fast...the quick or the dead!!!
So many choices so little time :D
Cant wait for the yirg to turn up as I have never tried it before.
Nice work on this months selection Andy.
Im in the same boat, checked out before the peru arrived.
Ahh, man! My 1st go at Beanbay - and it didnt work out how I wanted. Was all keen for some of the Peru, but as it wasnt there, I ended up with Honduras Extra Bold instead - which sounds a bit strong for my taste.
Now Peru has appeared! Is it too late to cancel my Honduras order and replace it with the same quantity of Peru?
Thanks Andy, couldnt figure out what had happened to the Peru, glad I read the posts, so got more than I had bargained for.
You have 2 separate orders for me now.
Hey Andy and Gurus thanks heaps, I got some Yirg thats all I wanted, wow man bean bay went off, it was nuts........ once again nice work... Ray.
Thanx for fixing the Peru up Andy... much appreciated.
I yearned to get some Yirg, but it was gone before I was clicking!
Andy, supply & demand ... CSers want more!
Was the stock that low to not meet demand, or am I missing something in my bidding, in the bidding frenzy, for such a popular bean?
Nice variety nonetheless Andy, & my orders placed (though no Yirg brings a bit-a-grief!)
Yes, there were a few odd lots that were left from previous BeanBay Green sales, mostly unpaid orders >:( We dont include them on the email list to everyone because the volume of each is so small (1-6 bags mostly)Originally Posted by javabeen link=1192525322/30#31 date=1192619960
The money is on its way to you Andy. I logged on about 9:15pm and so many varieties were gone! Wow you lot were quick! Its all good though, I got some Peru and am going to try the Aussie stuff.
For those who missed out on the "good" beans, there is always next time! Try another variety, you never know what you might discover....
Exactly right Flo.For those who missed out on the "good" beans, there is always next time! Try another variety, you never know what you might discover....
Quite often the bean that I rated the highest is the one that everyone skipped-over. The thing to remember is we only offer great coffees so people would be wasting their time looking for a "dud". :)
Ill see if the broker has more of that Yirg though, 3 minutes was a little faster than I expected. If I can order some more I will do so for the next BeanBay.
PS: still 200kg of beans and 100kg of decaf in there so the total volume of beans is pretty close to right.
That Decaf Mocha Java is brilliant stuff. Got some more this time!
Sweet, I bagged some Peru :) I nearly missed out -- Kat and I were out at dinner around 9:30 when I remembered about BeanBay, so I had to whip out my phones web browser and put my order through on that. Id been tossing up between the Peru and the Yirg anyway, so seeing the Yirg all sold out made that choice easy in the end.
same with the peru - bought and extra bag of dominican only to find the peru back on once i had paid. Needless to say I have ordered teh peru too - blew the budget but the bruises induced by the missus will heal
