Great beans for Latte drinkers ?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
We only drink Lattes at my house and when I read the notes on all the different beans I find it rare to read of any that are recommended as great for lattes...are they any hints and tips that you experienced coffee experts can share...your favourrites etc....?

    Thanks...

    Well, I have my favourites...

    Ethiopian Harrar Longberry from Beanbay
    or
Guatemalan Los Volcanes from The Coffee Barun

I also have enjoyed some nice Costa Rican and Kenyan Peaberry lately (from The Coffee Barun). I make my lattes with a double ristretto which may affect it too.

My favourites are anything that is not very acidic (as some Kenyas are to me).

The acid coffees make great ristrettos but when added to milk always make the milk taste off to me.

I dont know that i can really go past an indian tiger mountain. While yes there are other great beans out there, this one seems to be my favourite.
The strange thing is, i dont really know why.

Wow!...thats a great list of beans to keep me going for a few weeks...I might take some notes as I work my way through all these so I can keep track of which
ones particularly tickle my taste buds :)

Forza Blend from Veneziano. A big favorite of cafes and mine too. Brilliant through milk with caramel and malty characteristic and a great dry cocoa aftertaste.

The names of these beans are so exotic...makes you want to run out right away and grab some for a delicious brewing experieince...my little Ikon hardly seems worthy 8-).

My favourite SO is a Columbian Excelso bean. The supplier doesnt provide more detail than that (I presume its a region?) which I find excellent for milk drinks. From the beans I have tried so far -

    Columbian Excelso best
    Sumatran Mandheling 2nd
    Yirg 3rd
Kenya AB quite a distant last

I have done a blend of 280/140 Columbian / Yirg which is very yummy

When my new Illy cups arrived at work, I had no option but to make a doppio ristretto macciato in the company Ikon (grounds by Kyocera, Ethiopian Limu). It was that or let the cups sit unused. :(

I was very pleased with the outcome. :)

I recently made a blend which includes 1/3 Ethiopian Harrar, 1/3 Columbian Supremo and 1/3 PNG Sigri.

It was beautifully smooth in cap, flat W and latte.
Maybe too smooth for some. maybe a bit more PNG Sigri and a touch of Kenya will spice it up a bit :) or swap Supremo for Sumatra Mandheling.

I would highly recomend PNG Sigri as a base for a milk drink and start adding other flavours from there.

Thanks Craig...smooth is nice...I like a smooth and creamy latte and I also enjoy the lingering taste in the mouth of the coffee long after you have finished *the cup....

    Ethiopian Gambella
    Sumatran Blue Lintong

and despite what has been said:
Kenya Rititi - I had it in milk 5 days post roast and thought it was good! maybe im just wierd....

Once i did a 50/50 of gambellas and Tanzania Arumeru...mmMMmmm, nice fluke. :P

I think the gambella must work well in 50/50 blends, as Ive done one (post roast) with Mexican Kassandra and its been flowing like thick, chocolately honey that makes an impressive latte...

Youre spoiling a great coffee that works perfectly well all on its own IMHO. I dont know why youd want to taint it with anything.

I agree. Some SOs work very well by themselves and this is certainly one. Great as a latte. One of my favourites!
