Rancilio Silvia (2009) milk frothing technique?

Ive just got one of these guys, and wanted to see if any people have handy tips when it comes to getting nice microfoam on the silvia?

Generally I bury the wand deep into the milk, dial it up and then pull up and surf the hole. I dip in when the foam starts to form, and wait for the temp to come up.

Are there any tips/tricks you have to share? I find it is not quite there.... I must be doing something wrong?

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs.

It might help if you mention a few more details:

    What milk are you using?
    What size jug?
What level do you fill the jug to?
Do you steam the milk before or after the shot?
