Rubber steam attachment on EM2300 Ristretto

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been covered (search did not reveal). Im still reading all the info in this section re: frothing techniques, and need a ton more practise....

Question: Can a Sunbeam Ristretto do an acceptable job at microfoaming? I read in another thread that someone managed latte art from it, so it obviously isnt that bad :-/

It has a rubber attachment which fits over the wand, should I remove this for better results?

Yep, remove the rubber tip for sure, Ive found that almost all smaller machines are capable of amazing microfoam! They just take longer thats all, start with a half full pitcher, with the wand tip hole JUST below the surface of the milk on a 45 degree angle at the edge of the pitcher....listen for the sccchhhtt schhhht schhhht sound to stretch the milk to about 20% more volume, then plunge the wand deep in the milk till its up to the required temp for your liking, making sure its not above 75C (this is indicated by a deep droning sound whilst steaming)

    best of luck :)

Start with a small jug too, if its too big the machine wont have the grunt to get the milk spinning very well.

Yeah the jug provided is stainless steel and is quite small. Made a cup this morning and filled to 1/3 and it spun beautifully :)

Just need to buy my grinder and some decent beans now!

Hi Iano, I dont wish to unecessarily alarm you, but I bought a Ristretto a couple of years ago. From day one I noticed a chemical sort of smell around the machine, sometimes stronger than others. I thought it was just the new plastic. Anyway my wife started complaining about the coffee taste being tainted. I was using rather dark supermarket preground beans at the time (also my coffee palate was not developed) so I was not sure if I could taste what my wife could or not. Next time I filled the reservoir the chemical smell was rather heavy. I rinsed it out several times with cafetto but still it would not go. I only used distilled water that I made myself so that was not the cause. I took the machine back to the store and asked the supervisor to have a smell in the reservoir, I did not tell him why. He was not impressed with the smell and he straight away asked if I wanted a refund. We checked the other ones on display and they had the same odour. I have since tried to buy various vaccuum flasks, they all have plastic stoppers and most if not all have this same odour. Around the time I bought my machine there was talk in the media about various toxic stuff the Chinese were putting in their plastics.

The point of this mail: Just to let you know if you *do have this same experience get your money back as I did, it was very easy. Maybe I copped a faulty batch.

Anyway sorry for taking up your time reading this if it does not apply as you could have made acouplke of lattes by now.

    kind regards
    Wayne
