Nemox Fenice - Unable to produce a steady flow of steam :(

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi All,

I recently became an owner of a Nemox Fenice, I was very excited to get the machine only to discover an issue producing consistent steam that lasts long enough to froth any milk :(

I prime the system as per the instruction book, select the steam button and wait for the light to give me the all clear... but unfortunately I have no success in producing a long running steam to froth the milk :(

Making thr espresso is fine, im able to get decent shots, however at this stage im very dissapointed and my excitement has vanished.* Im able to produce better steam from my Ascaso basic machine, but my espresso shots from this machine are not as good (i have the dibartoli grouphead mod).

Any help on what might be the issue (including the user) would be most appreciated.

Ive had a chat to my bro about who has a Lelit and it doesnt seem as though im doing anything wrong.

Note: the Nemox was purchased second hand, but looks pretty much brand new!

    Cheers,
    David :(

Hmmm, Im gonna hazard a guess here that although it may look new on the outside, the insides could be tired or somewhat grotty.

Have you tried running a descaling solution through the boiler and wand?

Also, How long is it taking you to do the milk, it could be indicitive of something a little bit more weird if its taking twenty minutes to steam 150ml of milk to 60 degrees... Do you get good strong steam when you turn the wand on, or does it seem weak and wet?

    hi laughing@fate,

you could very well be right about the condition of the machine and its internals.

with regard to frothing hot milk... i just run out of steam and just dont bother which leads me to believe its some form of pump problem, but for whatever reason espresso shots seem fine.

i get good steam through the wand, but this lasts no more than 20-30secs before it dies off to nothing.

    thanks for your help

Id definitely try a good clean and descale before anything else. I use the Cafetto stuff to descale my machine and it works very well.

Btw, the guts of this machine are very similar to the Lelit PL041. So it should have very nice steaming capability.

Having a brass boiler the thermal properties should be pretty good also.

Thanks for eveyones suggestions, ill give descaling a go and report back to everyone. Its probably worth mentioning :-/ I have followed the instructions using white vinegar to pass through the system this morning, but this really hasnt changed anything.

Basically I get a good head of steam (excuse the pun) but this lasts no more than 15secs :-/

Back on the Ascaso so I can atleast have coffee until I get this sorted.

Anyways took some pics (every thread needs a pic) of the machine and its innards... and for the most part it looks untouched which is good news.

Ive compared my machine to another gentlemans on the web and its slightly different: http://picasaweb.google.com/olph4rt/FenicePID but the core components look the same.

    Thanks for your help IPDiscuss.

My Brother has the Lelit PL041 (with inbuilt grinder) and having sampled the coffee he is able to produce.* Is what led me to buy this particular machine (given it similarities).

Lets hope its a simple fix.
