    Blowing Bubbles

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
My Gaggia Classic has started blowing bubbles through the steaming wand\arm, turning the milk into a bubbly mess. The machine is not modified in any way and has worked fine for years. I don't think it's blocked, when I test it without steaming milk (i.e. just turn the steam on) it seems to be normal, and it dispenses hot water via the arm normally too when I test that. Any ideas?

Is the machine, by any chance, a supporter of West Ham United FC?

More seriously, do you get any steam coming from the group head while steaming? Has the machine ever been de-scaled?

Do you use the same milk all the time? I find sometimes you can get a bad batch of milk. Not so much the taste but the way it froths the milk. Just something you may want to consider also.

    Cheers,

    Chris

haha, not a supporter, at least not admitting to it

I didn't notice any steam from the group head, but will check. I haven't descaled, but when I replaced the group seal about 6 months ago I didn't notice any scale at all then. I do back flush clean it with Cafetto espresso cleaner.

Yes, I do use the same milk. You're right, it's not always 100% the same, but I think in this case it's down to the machine. The machine seems to be pulsing when steaming, generating bubbles. It looks like a spa!

Seems odd... if there is any more advice i can give you it is if you don't want to waste milk while you are trying to fix the problem, just use water and a little drop of dishwashing detergent. Gives the same affect as frothing milk. Sorry i cant help you on the mechanical side of things.

    Cheers

    Fixed!
It turns out there is a sleeve on the inside of the frothing attachment that had dropped out (I found it on the floor......). Once that was put back it worked fine. I must admit I don't like the attachment, but have been too lazy to try the Rancilio mod.
