Can anyone confirm that when steaming milk it should spin counter clockwise. If so Why? I have heard this a couple of times.

Only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Sundays. Otherwise it's clockwise.
Of course, if you only have a digital clock, you're in trouble.

Definitely clockwise, otherwise you defatulate the discombobulose and it can't be absorbed making the milk unfit for consumption by right handed individuals.

le sigh - all those comeidans out of work and you guys are job hunting...

It's probably that most steam wands are on the left so you angle them left and hold the jug in your left hand - when you tilt the jug it naturally starts the whirlpool CW. If your wand is on the right I would think you'd have the reverse situation or risk burning your hand on the grouphead.

I think next time you run into those people telling you such fairytales and back away slowly and try not to make eye contact...

I'd say it has more to do with which hand you hold your jug in. If you're using your left hand, ccw. If your using you're right, switch to left.

Whichever way is most convenient for the placement of your steam wand and hand you are holding the jug in.
