    There is a new milk on the market called Made By Cow.

    Apparently it's processed by extreme pressure and not pasteurised or homogenised.
    It's the closest you can buy to raw milk, which is illegal to sell in Australia.

    I will not post links, the best thing is to Google "Made By Cow".

    I have no idea how it would "steam up".
    It is expensive, I'm getting a bottle to try over the weekend (hopefully).
    If it tastes like the freshly milked milk I've had at a relatives farm years ago, I'll keep getting it.

    Since I only drink black coffee, either very short or long, I may not try it in my coffee, then again, I'll probably give it a try.

    Sounds interesting but @ $5 - $6per litre, would you put heat to it? I look forward to hearing the results of your experiment. I donít drink milk based coffees but my wife says that good milk makes a huge difference. Good luck.

    Had this a couple years back when it launched. I really like the taste, slightly more earthy/grassy which was delicious. But I do find homogenized milk can be a bit of a pain to steam. I found if you gave the bottle a good shake before pouring into the jug you can distribute some of the cream into each use. But inevitably you end up with some jugs with lots of cream and some none.

    $5 a bottle is a bit too pricey for me to use on the regular, but happy to see new innovations hitting the dairy sector.

    I don’t believe it illegal to sell raw milk, commonly called bath milk.
    Illegal to consume but not to sell.

    It is indeed illegal to sell raw milk for human consumption.

    It has been illegal to sell unadulterated raw milk in Vic since 2015.

    All producers must comply with a stipulation:

    k) Ensure that milk or any milk product which is sold, delivered or supplied by the licence holder other than:(i) for human consumption; or(ii) to another holder of a licence under the Dairy Act 2000, is treated in a manner approved by Dairy Food Safety Victoria so as to deter human consumption and such that the milk could not reasonably be mistaken as for human consumption.

    I buy Bannister Downs at $4.50 per 745ml (yeah, weird size) as it is (very) lightly processed Frisian in glass bottles - all stainless and glass processing and worth every cent to get away from the awful plastic taste tainting my cuppa. When I was growing up with a dairy farm over the back fence we used to call Frisian "white paint milk" because it has so little flavour - which makes it perfect for coffee. Totally unlike "fresh from cow" Guensey, which is my favourite drinking milk and (dammit) overpowers most coffees.

    Also, I don't regard $5ish a litre too dear IF it comes in glass as I find the taste of plastic is worth paying to avoid.

    Enjoy your (non tainted) cuppa - whatever it is and however you get there.

    I feel like calling it bath milk implies it's for bathing in and not for drinking, thus making the sale legal but the drinking illegal

    You could also argue that by steaming the milk you are homogenising the milk, but can not guarantee the results.
    Over 65 deg for 15 seconds if my memory is correct.

    Ronin, are you referring to homogenizing the milk or pasteurizing it?
    While you are somewhat correct (more like 72-73 degrees for 15 seconds, or 30 mins at 65 degrees) the bacteria would have already grown in the milk by the time you have purchased and consumed it. There are some exceptions, but in general if the cow is healthy you can drink fresh milk unpasteurized from the cow. But once you store it for more than 24 hours the bacteria will start to grow pretty quick, even chilled.

    I'm not sure exactly when it came in, but around 5 years ago a law was passed at least in NSW that bath milk had to have bittering agents added to it so it was no longer palatable. Prior to that it was lovely to drink!

    Love buying farm gate or whole milk here in NZ. So much nicer than the processed crap in plastic bottles.

    We also buy raw milk here in NZ, $5.50 for two litres, micro foams well and tastes so much better than your normal store bought stuff. If I have a coffee in town I usually have a long black do to the taste of the milk cafes use. I must be fussy but then again I am a coffee snob!.

    Why is some milk legal in one place but not another?
    Here in Australia we have an interesting, but not uncommon, situation where both federal and state laws coexist. This came about when six states formed the Federation of Australia which resulted in the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901.

    The constitution allows for the Federal Government to pass and enforce laws to do with the national interest over which the states have little or no authority.

    Likewise, individual states pass and enforce laws over which the Federal Government has no jurisdiction.

    According to the Constitution the laws passed in one state should not interfere with the business of another state nor the Commonwealth.

    Hence, we have the situation with laws on milk. They can vary from state to state and make life interesting for cross border commerce which the constitution seeks to protect.

    From time to time state and federal representatives will meet in a Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to attempt to harmonise legislation.

    Do they enjoy a Latte or Cappuccino during COAG coffee breaks?

    Hopefully this will explain why there appears to be some contradiction between NSW and Victoria as well as other states and possibly the Australian Government.

    Different situation in NZ – Search for FSANZ, Food Standards, Primary Production and processing standards. Note: these are guidelines only, but may be enforceable under state law.

    I need a coffee after this: with milk – Gippsland Jersey Full Cream (or Light), micro foams very well, tastes great despite plastic container. Coffee machine is Saeco Royal Professional 6 years old. Coffee from Segafredo Melbourne and Vittoria from Woolworths!

    I normally drink my coffee black, but sometimes have a cappucino/latte, and i've found the Premium Green Pastures brand of milk to be the best. My local Coles marks the 1L bottles down to 49 cents, it lasts for at least 3 days after the use by date so great value. Saw the advertising for this Made By Cow brand on TV, might give it a go soon but would not be a regular purchase at the price they are asking.

    ... like all food prep, balancing the flavours is the key issue.

    In the case of "milk coffees" I can shift the flavour around a lot simply by changing milks.

    As long as you enjoy what is in front of you, I reckon most other issues just fade away.

    I find it absolutely delicious, extremely creamy tasting and smooth. To me it tastes a bit sweeter than normal milk when its steamed. the colour of the cream is apparent and you can see the "yellow" colour in the steaming jug vs regular milk. Overall its bloody delicious... Just expensive
