    Web page help

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello everyone,
I have a really stupid question in relation to web pages :-?.
What is the tiny picture/initials called, e.g the tiny CS, in the block immediately to the left of the web page address?
Further on this, why do some sites put this into your bookmarks and some dont?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve.

Its called a "favicon" and certain websites decide to have them, like a branding thing. So when you bookmark a page, the icon will be there for recognition.

Thanks for that, who thinks of the names for these things?
A few sites that I have been on have favicons, but they dont import into my bookmarks when I bring the page up, any tips?
    Thanks again.

All pages i visit tend to import the favicon ok, what browser are you using.
I think the name was dreamed up by some guy in a basement with "way too much time" on his hands...

I changed from IE to Firefox today. I did the import thing when I started FF up, but none of the favicons came over. When I go to some pages, the favicons (I just like saying that now) appear in both the address bar and the bookmarks, but some pages it only appears in the address bar and wont go into the bookmarks.

Im getting a mental picture of this person as well, shudder.

Ha, I dont think its important enough to delve into the etymology, but my guess is that its a portmanteaeux from "favourite" (a synonym for bookmark) and "icon".
