    Strangest drink

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I was having a chat with a friend of mine who works behind a coffee machine in a cafe (she doesnt think of herself as a barista!?)

The normal thing of "wouldnt it be good if there was no soy, no decaf, babychino etc". No "I will have a large soy, decaf, half flat, white half latte, so not too much foam but not too little and its got to be hot.... but not too hot".

Then she tells me of a customer who orders this:
Half decaf, half caf, half soy, half milk. :o

    THAT RIGHT!
A half shot of decaf, with a half shot of normal coffee, with a 50:50 mixture of soy and cow milk!

I told her she should serve her a soy decaf latte, a cafe latte, charge her for both and tell her to mix it herself (Mr Bean style!)

Anyone else asked for a wacky drink?

How do you charge for that ??? *Do the orders ever get to the point where you say that it costs twice as much to make the thing compared to the standard and charge accordingly?

Customer choice is all well and good but when my simple Doppio is too close to the price of the more complicated drinks I get mildly annoyed.

Must kinda suck for the barista who has to pull two different shots, and steam two jugs to make one coffee. Unless you mix the soy and milk then steam it? :o

Id be mixing the decaf and caf in the portafilter too, no point wasting coffee on that kind of request. Also If the grind is right on your decaf grinder and your caf grinder then you should still get a reasonable pour.

Interesting idea. Do you put the decaf in first or last?

I would think that the customer would not know the difference if you just put a decaf soy down.

I could be wrong, and Im not one to waste my coffee to find out the difference in taste. :D

    Re: Strangest drink

i had one customer that ordered a long machiatto, one shot decaf- one shot caf and heated soy mainly foam on top.

i used the single basket for the decaf and the one side of a double for the normal.

it was a really annoying order but she was a repeat customer and very polite about the whole situation.

half caf/ half decaf :-? dude i feel sorry you. pity they didnt order a half shot instead.

made myself double ristretto piccolo on decaf the other day. brilliant.
tasted like dark cocoa and milk.

I would do a half dose from the Mahlkonig and then manual dose the decaf from the mazzer. though i imagine it would taste better with the decaf dosed on top of the fullcaf(?).

We always pull doubles at work regardless of the order.. if the second shot doesnt get ordered by time its pulled it usually ends up in my belly for diagnostic purposes and quality control. ... maybe i should start keeping count?
