Extending boot drive partition - XP

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I have a freind that has partitioned his drive. He is now at the stage where he has run out of space on c: partition (boot/system partition). I offered to help him because I thought it would be simply matter of extending the partition however XP doesnt allow you to extend the system partition.
Ive wiped the remaining partition so the drive/partition is ready for extend, can this be done with any utilities or am I locked into imaging his partition and reinstalling after wiping c: then extending?

Cant be done with a Windows XP native utility such as Fdisk. You will need 3rd party partitioning software such as Partition Magic.

An alternative is to clean up the C: drive, get rid of apps he doesnt use even if he says he might, store all the documents on portable storage and move to Swap file to another partition (this might help speed up the computer a bit.)

You might be able to do it with partitioning software on some Linux distros but it might stuff it up.

Buying a new hard drive is probably his cheapest option, depending on the age of the computer.

    Thanks guys,
Ive cleaned up his C: but this only freed up about 4Gb. He is adamant that he needs all his installed software :)
He (well I did;)) installed a larger drive but wants to maintain all his programs as is and use the second drive for data. He is technical professional and has a staggering amount of gathered library and data files :o

I will grab a third party partition manager :)

    second drive for data
i think this is a good idea regardless of how large the primary partition is..

makes disaster recovery so much easier when everything important is seperate from the HDD with the OS and other programs..

There are some excellent partition managers available from Live Linux CDs.... Just boot up on the CD, start the partition manager and then adjust to your hearts content...

I used a copy of Easus Partition Manager. Was easy peasy and all done from windows :) Took an hour to image the drive (as a precaution :)), took less than 3 min to resize c: partition ;D
