    Disappearing Topics

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I appreciate that from time to time, threads may need to be removed from the open forum so that the mod team can review the content and decide if the discussion is appropriate or relevant as deemed by CS rules etc.

But is there some way that when an active topic is struck down by "deletor" that there is some kind of "moved to moderator area for review" or similar annotation that can be left behind? much in the same way that when topics are merged there is a "moved to ..." left behind?

Im not asking for there to be any evidence about who moved it, or where precisely the topic has been moved to be made public, I guess Id just like to know that an active discussion was perhaps inappropriate, or why a discussion that had been active for more than a day is suddenly gone from the forum.

even a "deleted due to inappropriate content" would suffice.

    thanks.

oh I fully expect a visit from "deletor" at any moment. But I had to ask, what I think, is a reasonable question.

I would like to remind every one of this important link.. Ya a sticky and even us long term posters sometimes need to revisit stickes as they update or change....

Good point AM, I do sometimes forget about the "Delete First, ask questions later" part of that sticky.

Our moderators nearly always do that or tell the original author why the post was being moved.

That is what I do most of the time (and Im the only one that does it).

As we head for 200,000 posts from more than 10,000 members deleting and then contacting the author is what I choose to do. I have found that no matter how much coffee I consume there is still a finite amount of time in a day and some posts just need removal.

While having a public discussion on the merits of keeping something around might be nice, it just aint very doable in the real world and tends to just consume vast amounts of my life.

Most of the time I would have let the post run its course, everyone had a day or two to say something, to vent or to whinge or to stomp up and down and if I think it has no need to be set in stone forever Ill then remove it.

Of course talking about coffee and your coffee making processes will rarely need to be removed.

    8-)

The occasional good word about Coffeesnobs (the product) and/or Andy wont be frowned upon either ;D

Certainly less chance Ill remove it.

Really, there are very few posts each month that get moved, edited or deleted. Most CSrs understand that we are all here for a good time and great coffee and the ugly stuff is well, just plain ugly!

Funny *;) I clicked on a topic "off topic actually" yesterday and as it loaded it fully dissapeared. To be fair it had been thrashed IMO.
On the really good side sometimes things are added. Scored some Yemen about a week after it had all gone as Andy dropped some in to BeanBay while I was browsing. Long long time ago now *>:(

true dat, true dat. Certainly its why Im a member here in the first place - to talk about coffee.

Im no fan of ugly stuff either, and have made that point the mod team in the past when threads have required it. Of course, threads can get out of hand very quickly and may require quick action.

I guess, I was just thinking that "Delete First, ask questions later" may be getting a bit vague in terms of a posting policy. But perhaps that is deliberate and necessarily so.

    Thanks for listening.
