    Who are you?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

Im been really enjoying this forum for a little while now however I dont know what the people I take advise off actually do! I dont give advise, because Im a coffee L Plater (work in software to pay for my mortgage) and dont think anyone should listen to me for a second.

But there are people in here who most defiantly do know their stuff, and should continue to pass on info, however Im wondering where youre coming from - who are you?

No names, or details on companies etc (unless you really feel the need), Im just just wondering whos a barista, roaster or none of the above but love coffee at home type of person.

I defiantly fit into the later.

No worries if you like the secrecy, totally understand however if youre keen to share your experience Im sure Im not the only one whos appreciate it.

    Cheers,
    Matthew

    Re: Who are you?

Although I dont work in the coffee industry
I have however lived and known about coffee since my first recollection at the age of 5

My grandmother roasted her own coffee and drank Greek/Turkish style brews

She passed or imparted to me everything she knew about the joys of coffee and I have expanded on it

I am now 50 years young & still learning
I am also passing on what I have learnt and hope those that follow expand on that

    Its what brings me joy

I am not a coffee professional but a coffee lover. I only offer advice when I believe it is pertinent. However there are persons on this site with extensive knowledge and I would take advice from them anytime. :D

    Re: Who are you?

I like drinking coffee but not as much as I like making it - seriously!

I just finished law school so you could think of me as a coffee expert in terms of needing something to keep me going through the all-nighters.

    Re: Who are you?

Ive been working as a barista for several years for a rather well known chain in Adelaide, had a disagreement with the management and about 6 months ago went to the rival chain.

There isnt alot of focus on great coffee at either chain, so Im keen to learn things myself. Im still kind of new to coffee though so Im here to learn from some other passionate people :)

When (IF) I get some money behind me, I plan on playing around with some roasting.

    Re: Who are you?

State Sales Manager for a US fortune 500.
I suppose I gained an interest for coffee when I started out as a rep in the mid to late 90s. Being out on the road all day exposed me to lots of coffee shops, some really good and some bad. Yes yes, I was supposed to be out selling but who could resist.
Anyway, I figured that I would try making coffee at home so I went out and purchased a Krupps, unfortunately back then I had no understanding of the importance of good, freshly ground beans and purchased ground coffee from the supermarket. Anyway, have learnt a lot since then and I am still learining.

I know its off topic but hey!!! Really dont need much money at all. $40-50 popcorn popper or $10 second hand one and some beans from the bean bay which incidentally are a LOT cheaper than roasted beans.

    Re: Who are you?

Yeah, Justin - fess up... what starts as a reasonably cheap hobby soon turns into costing you lots and lots of dollars! Mind you, all worth it!

Im a desk jockey who just loves all things coffee - after probably two years, Im still on a steep learning curve and enjoying the journey every step of the way. And the people I have met, and speak to regularly on this forum, also make the experience completely enjoyable!

I impart knowledge where I can and where I have experience, but still stay out of some conversations due to lack of experience. Even though I now have an HX machine and a quality grinder, I dont tend to impart too much knowledge on these because I dont feel completely confident in my ability and technique - fortunately there are other people that have the knowledge and experience in spades that can help.

I see my job on these forums to encourage where I can, give my opinion, be mischievous on occasion, have a joke and ask questions.

And, above all, have fun and be a member of the CoffeeSnobs Community!

    :)

    Cheers
    Di

    Re: Who are you?

I qualify for my seniors card in September--worked in the newspaper industry for 25 years and now self employed lawn and horticulture business part/time.
Ive been totally absorbed by all things coffee since stumbling upon CS after I purchased my first Saeco VV espresso machine a few years ago, since then I have upgraded several times, done over 400 home roasts on my trusty Correttos, get out and about and learn as much as I can about coffee, roasting, cupping and different brew methods. If I ever have a problem I know I will get instant advice and support from the knowledgable band of CS coffee sages. Through purchasing my green beans from Beanbay I have met some great WA Coffesnobs, we meet up each month to collect our beans, drink and compare our roasts and talk about coffee and life in general.
    Thank you CS :) :) :) :) :)
