    Alice Springs :-)

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Ok...

So I am off on another little trip, but this time for self...

    5 days of walking/driving and camping ;)

3 days of accommodation pre and post walking.

What do I do... Take beans and a hand grinder or just some Nescafe Green and be done with trying to get good coffee OR what ?

Note: This is a guide run tour (< 10 persons) so not like I have all my own stuff... Just allowed one small backpack.

Red Dog and Soma on the Todd mall.

Soma served a perfect flat White x 2. *A touch on the earthy side but their own blend and I understand a Byron bay and South Amercian??? *Have to say one of the better cups I have had when away from home. *Will need to have a short black or. Short mac to see how it sits in the cup without milk -:)

Short mac was OK.. Not as thick as I like but ok. A strong hint of Nuts... Almond and Haslenuts...

Well a long story but on Short. If ya want evenaverage coffee do not travel here with out your own kit. 30L hot water urns ever where and stale instant !!!!

Have only seen two machines in total and a 30sex glance says it all. What is realy interesting is that almost no Australians around... 3 big tours and outta and we are the only Australians. Even the tour guides are not Australian. In addition even the road houses / servos are staffed by young people from Germany and Denmark......

Mind you all the Germans and Italians on our tour have all stated; coffee any where in Au is crap....

Must run, the rock was wett with lots of rain. Kings cannon in 4.5 hrs.

When you see the places that the tourists from Germany and Italy visit, is it no wonder they miss our best coffee?? I mean, seriously...if youre just going to do the popular touristy spots then dont be surprised to miss out on what we really have to offer in the way of coffee...

Enjoy your break AM, you deserve it! Ill be asking you all about it when you get back because I havent been out that way before and would love to see it all myself.

Im not suprised you havent see many machines. The cost to freight parts, and a service tech out to fix anything would be heaps. Im suprised your not paying $8 a coffee! :) Might be a career in that for ya if you want to move to the NT? ;)

I actually found that I was avoiding drinking coffee anywhere apart from a few really good places. Maybe I was turning too snobby? ;D Lately I find Im trying different places, especially now that Im missing a machine, but now and again I find a good coffee in the most unsuspecting place! :o

I still get my mouth burned by super hot milk 90% of the time but thats life.

True but also not so easy. When in a new country and on a short holiday / honeymoon etc how does one know where to go and what to look for ?

In most places even the instant is stale and the two biggest hotels served crap coffee..

Red Dog and Soma on the Todd mall. *[smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Had a girl make me a great upside down latte in a tall glass... Now at $165 for dinner and sweets, I had to have a coffee ($6) as it came highly recommended. *Person making it had 3 years training in Germany and 6 months full time in Italy as part of her 4 year training and doing her final 6 months abroad.. *

Every ting was great except that the San Marino was either running hot or she did not do enough cooling flushes AND the DE *beans were STALE... *(Her comment was - Staff are not allowed to touch or adjust any of the settings - typical hotel and understandable to a large extent)

The others with us were leaving for Cairns / Townsville / Fraser Island / Heron Island... *Now I bet it will be a piece of cake to spot and find the best coffee places.. *NOT!!!!! *They will go home knowing what the rest of us know... The vast majority of places serving coffee - Serve CRAP. *Every many and his dog has a coffee machine and *it makes it even harder for some one new to the country to actually have a great coffee.

    Kings Canyon is brilliant-
Was not bad... *Ran into some other big tour groups, so got off to an early start.. *I would suggest of the 3 busses and the two small groups... My wife and I and about half the guides were Australian.. *

Spent 7 hrs in the Base hospital and other than the main Dr, the staff *were all non Australian.... Other than the majority of locals with cuts head trauma that were waiting for care *;)

My personal medical resident was a lady in a Berka and I do not have an issue with this... She was nice and kept pulling it down and explaining every thing twice *;D *I guess I looked like a local *stock-man, with my 45Year old stock hat and dirty cloths and un-shaven..

Agents her strong recommendations for me to submit to an enema and a physical examination - I discharged myself and will be trying to see my local GP this week... Also a she, but I feel that past experiences and all the medical notes on hand, will make it easer for both of us *:D

    Conclusion...

It also *looks like I may have picked up, the so called 100 day cough that is going around..

Giving up the fags (lung lollies) and no access to good coffee, is bad for you *[smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] (Hurts ya throat and ya ass)

Might as well go eat worms *:D *while I wait for the PSA tests to come in and have a barrage of other tests done..

PS. *All of the above is the good news....
