    Sydney Royal Easter Show

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Last Friday at the Royal Easter Show, I tried 2 macchiatos. The first at Cafe Alfresco. I told the ‘coffee machine operator’ that she had put too much water through the machine. I wouldn’t call her a barista. She made another with a little less water. It was undrinkable. I gave up and tipped it out.

Later I bought one from another stand which I was able to drink but decided to have my next coffee back at home.

I find that at a place like the show, with an endless passing trade and not relying on repeat trade, quality control and staff training is not always what it should be.

I have had good coffee other times at the Show but I was not prepared to taste any more bilge water in the search.

I did enjoy the tea and scones at the CWA Cafe. Not the Chin Waggers Association but the Country Women’s Association. They are good cooks and always do a good job.

This was your mistake Barry.* One does not go to the Show to partake or expect a good coffee experience.

One goes to the Show for the more sublime culinary experience of a sav coated in copious and unctuous amounts of batter, deep fried at an inappropriately low temperature so as to soak up as much oil from the fryer as possible, immersed in tomato sauce, finally suffering the humiliation of being impaled on a stick.

My, what a delicacy. A battered sav at the Show, is in itself, well worth the price of admission!

And you can even get the apples on a stick! :)

PS: Unless someone discovers good coffee at the Show, I think this thread needs to go; its in the wrong section!

I was at the Show again today and had a very acceptable macchiato at ‘Waffle World’ near the Schmidt Arena. I had watched the barista for a while and was impressed how she was operating and keeping everything clean.

At another place I was turned off by the way the bench and all the equipment was covered by a mountain of ground coffee. I gave that mess a miss.

I agree. I had a couple of top class apples.

A winner at the show is the hot sweet corn on a stick, dripping with butter.

This year for the first time at the Show there is Fonzie, Australia’s biggest Holstein bullock. The eight-year-old is 1.885m, or 6ft 2 ˝ inches tall and very long. Hes a wopper.

I wouldnt bother with coffee inside the showground but rather just visit Pablo and Rustys at Homebush, just up the road first!
