    alternative uses for equipment?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
We all know how innovative the coffee community is in adapting other equipment to our benefit (poppers, heatguns, breadmakers, rotisserie ovens, etc).

I wondered today if anyone has found any innovative uses for coffee equipment for non-coffee endeavours?

Some people use their breadmakers for making bread.

    A bit odd I thought [smiley=cheesy.gif]

I let my wife make tea with water from the Expobar.

P.S. I also love shrinking PET soft drink bottles with the steam wand before throwing them in the recycling bin.

Nice! Ive heard the steam wands are also useful for homebrew bottle sterilising, but I cant imagine people buying a machine specifically for these purposes.

When making bread (particularly naan bread) I place it on the warming tray to help it raise. Not that innovative but bloody useful – keeps the dough at a relatively high temp.

    Re: alternative uses for equipment?

When no-one is looking, I talk to my equipment.

We sometimes have long and meaningful conversations, though the steam wand is often dismissive of what I say and interrupts with a...."pphhht", and the grinder is always louder than everyone else.

Ive had the odd word with the equipment -- but what transpires is not repeatable in polite company.

The "conversation" is usually followed by a coffee flowing down the sink.

Ah yes Robusto, I think Ive had similar discussions!

And Wushoes, consider this...almost all children speak to themselves, and/or have imaginary friends. The elderly do it too. Its only as adolescents and adults that this seemingly inherent human trait either disappears, or as I suspect, is knocked out of us as its thought to be anti-social. I also happen to beieve that this is one reason why mobile phones are so popular - we can now have a conversation, on the train, walking down the street, etc. and perhaps there are a few, who arent actually speaking to anyone...welcome to psychology 101 :)

Yep know what you mean.... it has been quite a while now since I had such a conversation..... but I remember that very well with a German piece of coffee making equipment I had some years ago.... It probably thought it was going to win as well...... it did in a way - went to the big retirement home with other equally useful equipment....

    Did someone mention landfill? ;D ;D ;D

I had a impolite conversation with my brugnetti the other night after hours of trying to remove those screw and then slipping and taking all the skin to the bone off my little finger :(

Dont know about the equipment but I find the milk cleaning solution mixed 20 to 1 does a great job on chrome, just dont leave it in for more than a few minutes or it will tarnish it.

Makes the machine all shiney ;D

Hey me too I fit in heaps more that way. Put the lid back on and they suck themselves flat as they cool too.

Thats fun too; listening to them scrunch as they implode.

I actually have a second bin so dont need to shrink them.
I just do it for fun.
