Had a laugh Grendel even though i guess its tougue in cheek if its not there the Aus Soccer team.

They were lucky and scored a late goal in extra time to grab a 1-1 draw. I dont think there handling the weather over there very well, they were dripping with sweat singing the national anthem. Tim cahill scored the equalizer to save us again as he did in germany 12 mths ago.

They play Iraq next on friday.

I believe the Baristaroos are the Australian Barista team that take on NZ in the Transtasman competition.

Looks like they could have used a few coffees. Barely sneaked in a goal in injury time to draw with Oman.

The Socceroos second game is on tonight with thr roos taking on Iraq. Theoretically it should be an easier game for them but well see soon, hopefully the have gotten used to the climate.

Theyre struggling bad with the stifling conditions over there.

I know our players have their own club commitments, but those who can afford to take an earlier week off should have to go there early to condition their bodies for an extra week.

do or die tonight.... (wel not really, but they need to put in a good display) after thailand went and whipped oman 2-0...
i dont have Foxtel, so its down to the pub.. which is fine now.. because i can watch it on the big screen with other supporters with NO smoke...!!!! brilliant.

if this match was being played in western europe/UK id have us up for 3-0 ... but being in the sauna that is SEA and our somewhat unsettled defence with Moorey and Chippers missing.. im expecting/hoping to pull clear at 1-0.

    good luck lads.!

    Nnnoooo.......

Dont have fox either so only just watched the game now... well actually still going but ive seen enough. After the start to the second half i thought we were going to smash them.

Im going to say this time that Thailand will be the victors so then maybe they win.

    Re: Asian cup has started

The game should be starting about now (no FOX dont get me started on that) so im getting it tapped. Hopefully they play to potential and whip Thailand and Iraq beat Oman otherwise the two goals wont cut it.

It might be a bit embarrassing for the players but they were hyped up beyond belive, my father in law is a bit of a betting man and he commented on the odds that the socceroos were given and said that it was unheard of. Japan usually wins this tornament or at least as been in the finals and because we beat them in the world cup we were expected to be a shoe-in. After all they did only win 1 game at the World Cup but they did play very well.

They joined this comp to get better competion to what there used to, even if they do bomb out this time they will know what needs to happen next time.

    Andrew "with his fingers crossed"

P.S. At 10.30 on Sun on SBS David Beckams first game for his knew L.A. team is on, lets see if hes worth his $350 Million dollar price tag.

Quarters here we come. 4 - 0 to the socceroos next game is Japan hopefully we can continue a bit of rythem and at least make it to the semis.

The roos seemed to play alot better this time with a bit of shake up in the team and some new players to show what they can do. Mark Viduka shruged off his critics, who winge about his lack of goals, with two goals to put thailand out of contension.

    Re: Asian cup has started

I think the new coach is rumoured to be Dick Advocaat (a Dutchman as well). He applied in 05 but they gave it to GH dont know what team he coaches now though.

Guus got about $8 Mil for getting the roos to the final 16, imagine what it would have been for the final or even the Cup.

Its funny that so many are calling for Graham to go because it was decided by the FFA ages ago that they would be looking for another Guus for the next World cup and he was only a temp so i guess hes going to be gone soon anyway.

Is anybody else cranky about the FFA selling the rights to Fox? SBS has shown the football for years with no other interest from anybody else, exept the Japan WC seven showed some games, then the Roos get to the world cup and bang out comes the money. I also think its pretty poor form from the FFA there obviously pretty out of touch with the public since there trying to pick up the profile of the game in Aus and get more people into it then take it off free to air and make you pay a fortune to watch it.

    Sorry about the rant!!

Whats the feeling about Japan do you guys and girls think well beat them? If they play like they did on monday I think we have a good chance.

Yeah I find it a pain that there is so much more sport on Fox! Like you said they are wanting to push the game in Aus yet they dont make it accessible.

Im hoping that the boys got a right scare the other night. If they play like a team then we should do it easy. Well lets hope anyway :)

    Re: Asian cup has started

Unfortunatey, media barons like Rupert Murdoch years ago saw pay tv as a broadcast medium for sport, and pay-per-view major events like boxing.

Anti-syphoning laws will be powerless to stop the trend.

Popular sport is being played not so much for the benefit of stadia spectators, but the cameras which carry it into the much, much larger audience in loungerooms. That is where the future is seen to be.

So more and more, well see pay tv -- a growth market -- taking sport away from free-to-air --- a contracting market.

    (Go Socceroos)

Well, hes still here, TG-- as a commentator, rather than coach. On SBS.

The main thing, Farina went. Good.

Japans demise is only 12 hours away. As they were the champs for the last 2 years its a pity their going to have to leave the comp in the quarter finals.

I cant believe it. I thought we had it, they played well scored first then let them equalize 2 minutes later.

    Maybe next time.

It was poor but they shouldnt have let them back in so easily.

Iraq and Saudi Arabia are in the finals... go Iraq....it would be good to see them win.
