    Melbourne AV installers?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

Just wondering if there are anys CSers with this expertise whod like a gig installing a Bose system in my new abode?

The frame is presently going up and my SO has insisted small and inconspicuous- therefore Bose.

I have a contact for a system but am looking for someone to integrate it into our build, connect it up to our Media Center and run and terminate some Cat 5 for me....

    Anyone??

    Chris

    HI Chris,

If you havent already splashed out on a BOSE system, Id strongly reocmmend you visit the digital TV forum (http://www.dtvforum.info/). There you will find very heated discussion if you search for "Bose", and youll find plenty of cheaper (and dare I say better) options, some of which are very discrete. Youll also find information on installers.
Youll find the name BOSE gets much the same reaction in home enetertainment forums as the mention of Choice surveys here!!!
Sorry to rain on your parade, but I almost went down the BOSE route (a former colleague sells them) until I discovered some of the tactics used to make the systems sound better in demos than they are. You will notice that Bose systems are never demoed side by side with other A/V equipment, nor will the company disclose specifications - where even the cheapest make publishes full data.
    I might stop there....

    Hmmm,

Strange to hear that about Bose? Weve had a Bose 901 system for the last 34 years, dragged all around Australia, to PNG and back and heaven knows how many times theyve been dropped, kicked and bounced around and they still perform on par with a pair of Altec Lansing Model 19s, some EV Sentry IVs and a newish pair of Klipsch "La Scala" speakers a friend of mine owns. I really enjoy the warm, rich tone of this class of speaker and wouldnt swap em for quids......

If you want to see a real downpour, visit:
    http://intellexual.net/bose.html

Before you go shopping, Id suggest you looks at this primer:
    http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/109262.html

Then, take some time to look around the forum I mentioned in my first post. In my case, I had a smallish HT room, so I went for a compact Denon/Mission set-up. The speakers, while not as cute as the Bose cubes, are about the size of a coffee mug and do a great job.

    Good luck...

I find this a bit of a surprise. I demod (On a budget) a set of Bose and Yamaha side by side at Sydney Hi Fi about 5 years ago and the Bose speakers were by far the better. In this price range that is. I settled for the Bose and I have a very good ear for high quality sound I can assure you. I know theres better, but how full of cash is your wallet?

    Re: Melbourne AV installers?

Theres a difference between Bose speakers and their home theatre products. The speakers are reasonably good, even though they dont reveal specifications.
The big rip-off is that the demo rooms have a lot of hidden equipment which make the HT products sound amazing. However, when you get home and its just the system on its own, you dont get anywhere near the performance. This is well documented and thats why you never see Bose systems in the same sound lounge as other HT equipment.
Again, Im talking about their Lifestyle systems, not the stand-alone speakers, which are often on display in sound demo lounges.
Im also impressed with their headphones, although they are horribly overpriced.
    Now, back to coffee ...

Thats odd fw, as I have the complete spec sheet for my 901s. Another reason that has cemented my loyalty to Bose is their fantastic service and support.

Sometime in the early 90s while we were living in PNG, I noticed that the outer suspension material seemed to be deteriorating. One call to Boses Australian distributor in Sydney and they offered to ship the speakers back to their premises in Sydney and....

    1) Refurbish the speakers back to original "new" condition, or
    2) Replace them with a new set of current generation 901s.
All of this at their cost.

They subsequently decided to go with Option 2) and give us a brand new set completely free of charge and these are still the units that grace our living room today. The original 901s were purchased in 1976 and were between 16 and 17 years old at the time that they were replaced.

I have never received this level of support from any other HiFi equipment manufacturer after more than 40 years of geeky audiophile behaviour, so I am quite happy to stick with Bose for the time being 8-).

    Cheers,
    Mal.

    Re: Melbourne AV installers?

I love my Bose Lifestyle - purchased 8 years ago and still sounds fantastic, even though my hearing has, Im sure, deteriorated.

With respect to others views, I believe that an appreciation of a sound system, like coffee, comes down to personal taste. Most of us can hear, but we all hear differently.

Go with what sounds best to you is my second crack worth and sorry I havent answered the original question.
