Yes you are right Java . People move to new areas like myself this gives people a chance to make new friends in the area.

Re: Where do coffee snobs live ?

You can see where all the snobs live anywhere in the world. Assuming theyve entered their location and pined the map in their profile.

To view the map click on the Members button at the top of the page. Then click on the icon of the globe to the right of the Sort by pull-down menu. This will give you both a visual map and a text listing of all the members in that particular area. :)

Hovering your mouse over a pin will pop-up that users name.

Theres a pull-down menu in the upper right corner where you can change to a different area.

If you havent set your location click on the Set Location button on the lower right.

If a user has entered their location their national flag will appear under their nick in posts. This is why some people have flags under their nicks and others dont. :-/ You can see their location by hovering your mouse over their flag.

Might want to think about more detailed maps of each state, and even ones for each capital city.

Just seems like a massive cluster and you cant even highlight individual "map pins"

Re: Where do coffee snobs live ?

The question "Where Do CoffeeSnobs Live?" was asked because not everyone has the time to sit down and go through nearly 5000 member profiles to see where everybody is located. So those that could reply to the post and let others know where they were, could be free to do so. People can see at a glance where other snobbers are. Other people like to know if there are other coffeesnobs in their area. cheers mr and mrs poddy66

Great to see where snobs live. Could we have a map that shows where people live, that when you click on it, that it shows proper location.
eg : not just qld but hervey bay and list coffee snobs ,what do you all think??????

What do you mean by proper location? The pin is put in the map by the user, not the system. If the pin is not in the right location its because it wasnt properly placed by the user. :)

I can think of several ways to do it manually but with 5000 members it would take some time to upload the data.

One way, if the data is available, would be to create a POI file (as used in GPS) and read it with an online editor.

Updating would be another problem with the speed of increasing membership.

First you would need to have a db that contains users locations. Seeing as many (most?) users have not stated their detailed location information in their profiles that would be a tad hard to come by.

when new coffee snobs sign up, have a box that they enter there location in.
this would would make things a lot easier for a progam to operate for a mapping program.
Java i here what you are saying ,saying that how many members have there location listed ??
Java great that you have told members how to show there location in this thread .

There is already such a mechanism in place. Every user has the option of stating where they are from and putting their pin in the map, either when first joining or at any later point. Such information is voluntary and given our societal and personal views on privacy I dont see it becoming a requirement on here any time soon. :)

A quick look at the map in the Members section (available for anyone to look at) shows that 714 members have listed a place of residence (at least to the regional/national level) in their profile.

Im in Woodgate, a small seaside village of about a thousand people located in between Bundaberg and Hervey Bay. I took this picture from an ultralight in 2006. It hasnt changed much. We are surrounded by National Park and at times there are more Kangaroos in town than people. Its not uncommon to have Emus walking around either. One of the strangest things I have seen is Kangaroos swimming in the sea in the early mornings.

    cheers..

As I live in Brisbane I can only dream of Visiting Woodgate

However I love Brisbane and live only 4 km from the city as the crow flies
I can see the city skyline from the porch and when the fireworks go off on festive occasions one can see all but the lowest ones just as good as being there.

I walk by the river paths and parks to keep fit *;) just 3 streets away, and apon my return its coffee time

Many wild birds live here and the other day a flock of Corelas 100+ birds were feeding on trees in my neighbours yard

Brisbane - I moved to Australia from Africa ( Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa) 9 years ago - apart from the humidity still getting to me for about 2 weeks of the year this is the greatest place to live, I love everything about it and I am sure Im going to die here ... some day...hopefully at the hands of a jealous lover after she realised I loved coffee more than her.... oh to dream..

Im in Werribee 30 mins from the city home to the state rose garden,Werribee mansion,Werribee open range zoo and of course the lovely Western Treatment Plant or sewage farm.
But a good place to live, and there seems to be a new place to eat, or drink coffee opening up every week. I would encourage anyone to come and try a few of our eateries out. The restaraunt at the mansion is fine dinning and it will set you back a pretty penny. But for a good Italian meal Baffetti is good.

Hey, no fair! I could go and take a photo of our 500kV power pylons -- quite impressive, but not exactly pretty...

But coming back to the map-of-pins -- who are all the sorry sods floating offshore?

They must be floating, cause I watched em for a while and didnt see any sink - glub, glub, glub ;D

Love the picture idea, though i dont have one to share at the mo.
Im officially in camperdown nsw, though i usually tell people newtown, cos im literally metres from the border(the other half of my street is newtown), and everyone knows newtown.
    Im lucky enough to have
Campos just up the road (i think everyone knows it)
Canteen seconds down the road (lovely little place next to camperdown oval)
Tobys a short ride away (on my way to broadway shops)
Rise bakery (king st) just a short walk away (the guy who works there makes a great cup)
And El Basha (king st) (not amazing coffee, but the best breakfast, which makes the coffee taste better)
So those are my local spots. Maybe ill see some of you there?
