Probably do us good to lose, maybe selectors will take a better look at the team.

    Re: Cricket

I thought the Proteas played extremely well as a team whereas the Aussies seemed more like a group of individuals.... Leadership problem?

So will RSA beat us at SCG? Will it be a draw or a royal spanking?

Arent the gloves supposed to protect your fingers from getting hit like that? If his fingers break anyway, why wear something bulky that takes away from the feel of the bat and something else for the ball to brush and get you out?

    Re: Cricket

Lovely day out at the SCG today.

A fairly flat deck (in the main), on which batsmen who watch the ball hard and get on the front foot do well (eg Clarkey). Hard work for bowlers and its going to get tougher with the temps rising over the next 3 days.

Proteas are at the peak of their game and very well led. Aussies are off the boil, having lost key players (would love to have McGrath, Gillie and Warne out there!) and with usual stalwarts out of form (Hayden, Hussey and Lee) - but that was bound to happen eventually and is not a bad thing for world cricket.

I would reckon Smith will not bat (or field) unless they desperately need him to hit the winning few runs. Its a shame for him, he was in cracking form. Still, Im a bit worried about what Kallis and co. are going to do to us tomorrow.

    Re: Cricket

Not only will he not bat (or participate in the rest of the Test) Smith is likely to be out for about 6 weeks with this sort of injury. Yes the glove does protect to some degree but if you were hit full force on the hand by a [s]Siddons[/s] Johnson delivery(thanks Greg) , only steel gloves would protect I think

    Re: Cricket

It was a 150kph Johnson delivery, Steve. And youre right, hes out for about 6 weeks - which he was going to have off anyway for his elbow injury.

And even the best batting gloves (which Im sure theyre using) arent necessarily going to keep out thunderbolts like that every time.
