I shall be visiting Melbourne in the next few weeks. For all you Melbourne Yum Cha aficionados what is your best restaurant. Preferably nearby to a top grade coffee house.

hey tojo, while Ive never had yum cha in Melbourne, I can heartily recommend Shanghai Dumpling in Tattersalls lane as a great place to go and eat plates of dumplings. My girlfriend and I have been known to demolish a few plates in under 10 minutes they are so good!

Shark Fin Inn - 50 Little Bourke
Shark Fin House - 131 Little Bourke
    Both in Chinatown area.

Lucky Chan @ Crown Casino area - Southbank.

Theres another great one in Little Bourke that Im trying to get the name of. I usually meet former colleagues there for lunch every now and then. Itll come to me.
*EDIT* - Dragon Boat - 203 Litte Bourke.

Also worth just walking the block between Swanston and Russell (in Little Bourke) and just wandering into a busy one. Best advertisment there is in the competitive area.

Are you just interested in the city area? There are a few good ones in the suburbs too. Like Springvale and Burwood East.

Cant help with the coffee though. Unless you happen to be out Wheelers Hill way!

Theres an all you can eat place on Lonsdale St, Dragon Boat Palace. For $16.80 all you can eat its pretty good! Pales in comparison to Ding Hao in Adelaide, but then all places I have ever tried are nowhere near as good as Ding Hao for Yum Cha...

Gold Leaf - Lvl 1/46 Buckingham Avenue - Springvale
There is another shop near cnr Buckingham & Windsor Ave that is good too (but dumplings mostly). Will try to get the name.

JG Dumplings - The Kingsway - Glen Waverley.
Not strictly speaking yum-cha, but I really like this place. 3 of us used to go for lunch when I worked in the area - 1 fried pork, 1 fried beef, 1 fried chicken & prawn. 32 dumplings.. GO!
*NOTE* You cant make friends with steamed dumplings!

One that has been recommended to me
Another Gold Leaf (think it used to be Shark Fin Burwood) - 155 Burwood Hwy - Burwood East

There seem to be a few Gold Leafs now - http://goldleafrestaurant.com.au/

    Hmmm... now I want dumplings!

Jimmy Wongs in Barkly Street Footscray has a good dim sim voted best by 3aw listners a while back.
The restaurant has been there for about 40 years.

Try Oriental Tea House ,455 Chapel Street, South Yarra

They have a huge range of dumplings plenty of good coffee to be had in Southmelb too.
