Australia and Tim Adams needs your support.

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Tim Adams from the Sunshine Coast won the title of 2009 Australian Barista Champion.

Although not employed by Veneziano, Tim has been at First Pour in Brisbane (West End) doing a full run through of his barista performance; that he will be performing at the World Barista Competition in Atlanta USA mid April. *What an experience let alone an achievement, and for the first time ever, a Queenslander: is representing Australia at the World Competition!

Many locals have come on down and got behind our Australian Champion, while he has run through his paces....

HOWEVER: I found out that due to last minute hiccups, Tim is now without an employer and some of the minor sponsor ship deals have; thus fallen through or in a state of limbo / review.

Thus while the efforts of some local CSs *and *the support by Veneziano in Brisbane, is a step in the right direction... *I personaly feel that it is not good enough.....

How can we as Australians and as some of the world’s most avid coffee drinkers and supporters, let him carry the burden on his OWN.. *When we also know that regardless of his final placing, he is carrying the Australian Flag for ALL of us... * Yet our own actions have / will have a significant impact on *his ability to focus..

As last minute sponsor ship / donation’s is all that he has available; as Queenslander and as an Australian; I am asking everyone to show their support...

Should you wish to support Tim, them please feel free to *send your comments, best wishes *TimWBC@coffeesnobs.com.au

With the time frames left, it is not so easy to set up a formal trust fund etc for any $$$$ that might be offered for short term assistance with any expenses he will be incurring, in attending the World championships. *

He has to compete as of the 16th of April, and if it was me I would need to be in the right frame of mind..... * *Let alone thinking of *his commitment to his personal status and the extra $$ he may be required to outlay on behalf of representing Australia.

Thus it is your decision as to what you might like to offer / provide.

    1: Words of support etc
    2: Formal sponsorship etc
3: Any other offers that might assist etc
4: Letting your other contact and or coffee associates know...

All of this can be done via an e-mail *to TimWBC@coffeesnobs.com.au

NOTE 1: Tim was unaware of this approach, however a number of us are committed to assisting him and his efforts to support Australia on the world stage... * While personal contributions / offers are being accepted at this stage, depending on the business support that may be forth coming... *any contributions that have been made are being held in Trust. *

NOTE 2: *To be fair to all parties, I do not think this is the place to actually discuss or comment on the reasons of his employment status. *

Any off topic post will be removed...

Id suggest Tim contact Qantas ASAP and see if they are prepared to sponsor his flight - perhaps in exchange for some appearances at their airport lounges. If you need contact details for the Qld state manager, PM me ...

Any chance of finding out any specifics of what he is after (ie just money) so professional approaches can be made? I have a few companies I could ask but it is hard to get your foot in the door without a good idea what you are asking for.

Could be a bit hard seeing Tim isnt actually aware of this but it would help.

All the best Tim, we are behind you and proud of what you are doing.

AM, In regard to supporting Tim, would sending emails to the media, such as A Currrent Affair & Today Tonight be appropriate? they are always asking for stories, and Im sure that 99% of the population dont even know that there is an Australian competing in the world championships, let alone his name. It would be great publicity for Tim and coffee in general, and may lead to some good sponsorship for him as well.

I was thinking of something along the lines of :

Since winning the Australian Barista Cahmpinship in January, Tim Adams of the Sunshine Coast has been working hard honing his skills and organising funding for his trip to Atlanta USA in mid April to compete in the World Barista Championships. Unfortunatley funding that Tim was expecting has fallen through at the last minute.

Is your program able to to an article on Tim and hopefully support his attemp at the world title?

If they got enough emails they may follow up. I will check back tonight to see what you think,

It is an interesting approach and considering what the Media did for Paul B and Sunbeam, who knows....

However I have to say that I am not part of Tims camp / PR group... *I am just a bit of a coffee "Would be if I could be" and feel that we should support any Australian who is promoting Australia and importantly or love of Coffee...

I am aware that Tim has been informed that there is now some discussions on the forums. *Thus I shall let him know, as I do feel it is his call, in the first instance...

I am also aware that he is a rather private person and was concerned as to receiving $$$ from the public Vs sponsorship by companies / suppliers.

However my support is for what I term an extended family member.. No strings, no comeback and no reference at a later date..

    AM,

Thank you for bringing this to (all) our attention.

We @ CosmoreX Coffee in Canberra will be happy to negotiate a commercial sponsorship to help Tim compete on behalf of Australia at the World Titles.

We will need to talk and I am going to give you my telephone number by PM. Perhaps you or Tim could give me a call and I don’t mind talking today (Sunday) by private (not work as we are not there ;)) telephone.

    Either way, GOOD LUCK TIM,

    Attilio

Good one ya Attilio, we are pretty sure that we can get lots of people in the local industry to pull together a solution to any problems that Tim has in representing Australia in Atlanta (in less than a fortnight!)

We have setup a CoffeeSnobs email address that will forward email to
Tim and others that are pooling resources to make things happen.

The 1st part of the equation is working out what is needed.
The 2nd is to make it happen.

The other criteria is to have as little impact on Tims time to prepare as possible, he needs to be on top of run throughs and timings, not have to deal with the more time consuming matters behind the scenes.

With that in mind, the best contact method at the moment is:
    TimWBC@coffeesnobs.com.au

...and we will have more details to follow soon.

    Thanks Andy,

It is great to see the community pulling together, to support an Australian presence at the WBC...

Not unlike the Olympics etc... It is the support / backing and importantly words of encouragement that can be most beneficial..

Now all I have to do is make sure I have bandwidth and plenty of coffee, when it goes live...

And a couple of million of them still wouldnt know what "pushing 53/12" meant but they watched last years Tour De France, just because there was an Aussie in with a chance.

Let the masses know and they will cheer Tim on :)

Seriously though, let us know the best way we can support Tim, kind words are wonderful for the soul, but if its $$$ he needs, just say the word, a little from a lot of people would go a long way to help him out

Veneziano Caffe is going to be following Tims them to some extent with some props being added to their layout...

So for those who attended the rehearsal, keep an eye out when you next in and catching up... *For those not in attendance, I will try for a few Pics, once things get under way.

I must thank Andy, as I understand with his support, some extra items that were needed due to 110V Vs 240V have been all arranged.

Note: While Airfares have been managed / provided and some excess baggage has be arranged... * This is for the Australian leg....

I am aware that *of any arrangements for excess baggage to be managed for internal flights to get to and from Atlanta. *Not sure who the carrier is but will attempt to find out...

Remember TimWBC@coffeesnobs.com.au for any communications / well wishes / offers.

Until recently, North America had THE most generous baggage allowances in the world... 2 pieces, not more than 32kg each. *Having said that, most airlines are haemorraging $$$ and thus, are now experimenting with charged luggage etc. *

Delta flies from LAX to ATL direct and whilst not a LCC is moving in the charged baggage direction. *They allow 18KG!!! for carry on (total linear length 45") free and two 22.5kg checked bags (total linear length 65") $15 for the first, $25 per additional.

    <total linear length = h + l + w>

    Hope that helps.

Well I understand that Tim is flying American Airlines and yep... Baggage restrictions... As he is having to do a double leg, lets hope he does not have to change planes or incur a double hit.. Problem he has to get home again as well...

The AA web site implies a charge of $110 (US) a piece once over the 23kg.

So if any one has contacts or pull with AA... Drop us a line at TimWBC@coffeesnobs.com.au

    Hi All...

Got a short note from Tims parents and felt it only correct to share...

    This is Tims proud parents.

We would like to thank all concerned that are getting behind and supporting Tim and Katie; for their trip to Atlanta. Within a 2 week period they went to hell and back but now Tim has a genuine team caring about him as an individual competitor, he is bouncing back like a true champion that he is.

He will do us all proud in Atlanta and will not forget the support they received.

A special thanks to all and could you pass on our gratitude to Venenziano (Peter and Penny), Andy Freeman and all CS supporters.

For those of us in Brisbane OR if you get to have a look at the Brisbane Courier Mail.. On Page 25 there is a small update as to Tim.

While small it is an interesting item for many reasons.

Looking forward to the live feeds when it all happens..

    - Andy, is the WBC dates on the front calendar?

Its a great article, good photo, well positioned on page. There would be a few politicians who would love to have it.

And the highlight box actually has useful coffee advice. There have been entire pages about coffee in newspapers and magazines that have less content.

I wish Tim well in the comp and congratulate all those that are getting behind him.

For those that follow the ABC.

If contact can be made.... Then the ABC is going to be trying for a 5 minute telephone interview on the phone for national and international broadcast on the Australian network..

ABC Radio National Breakfast with Fran Kelly

So if you about at 6:30... Tune in and we may be lucky enough to hear how things are going...

    [edit] Update:

It will be broadcast here in Australia, Friday 17th between 0600-0830.[/edit]

    I am confused..

ABC Radio National Breakfast with Fran Kelly and Tim Adams.. A 5 minute telephone interview

It will be broadcast here in Australia, Friday 17th between 0600-0830.

It will be interesting... With all the time differences etc...

I am assuming we will get a Phone interview (done prior to the comp) released, after we watch him compete ???

I will be attempting to cap some of the sessions...
